CEO of Cricket Australia James Sutherland will Resign after 17 Long Years

Cricket Australia Chief Executive James Sutherland, in an attempt to overcome the ball tempering controversy, announced on Wednesday that he will step down from office within a year. James Sutherland had to face a ball tempering controversy two months ago, due to which there was a lot of defamation in Australian cricket around the world.

Chief Executive Sutherland has given 12 months’ notice to Cricket Australia. Over the last 17 years he was the CEO of Cricket Australia.

Sutherland said that “I feel very comfortable that this is the right time for me and a good time for the game,”

“With these foundations in place, I feel that it is a good time to hand over the reins to a new CEO,”

“My successor will have a strong and stable platform from which to lead our national strategy and to deliver on our bold aspirations to grow cricket as Australia’s favorite sport and a sport for all Australians.”

Who is Sutherland:

Former accountant and medium pacer Sutherland have played some first-class matches. He became the General Manager of Cricket Australia in 1998. Three years later, he became the chief executive. Since then, he is serving CA as CEO.

Cricket Australia was at its peak at this time. During his tenure, Australia’s Day Night Test match and the Big Bash T20 series were debut. Apart from this, the famous payment dispute that took place during his tenure was also quite discussed. Because of which Australian cricketers threatened to boycott matches.

The most challenging time of Sutherland was the Ball Tempering dispute. He is also accused of slow investigation in this case and tried to put pressure on them to resign But Cricket Australia maintained complete faith in him and supported him. Now he will serve CA until they find his option. After that he will step down.
