Sunrisers Hyderabad was introduced in Indian Premier League in the year 2012. The Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise is introduced after the permanent suspension of Deccan Chargers Hyderabad. 2013 was the SRH’s first IPL season. They are the winner of IPL 2016 title under the captaincy of David Warner. David Warner has been one man army for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
It is noticeable that SRH did not retain or RTM their star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj Singh was the costliest player of the IPL tournament before this IPL Auction 2018 and SRH was the team to pay that high amount for him. They also let go their star overseas bowler Mustafizur Rahman.
SRH’s batting has been always exceptional at the top of the order as their captain leads them at the top, but middle order has always been a problem for them. Let’s see did they work on this issue at IPL Auction 2018? Here is a complete analysis of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad for IPL 2018.
The Retained Players:
As every franchise team of the IPL was allowed to retain its maximum three existing players in the team. But SRH only retained their two players. One of them is their IPL title-winning captain David Warner. David Warner is one of the best T20 players in the world cricket. He is one of the most destructive opening batsmen as well, as he can turn the game by himself only. He has also proved himself a good captain to the side as well. SRH batting mostly depends on him.
Another player SRH retained is Indian Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one of the most destructive and wicket taking bowlers in IPL tournament. He was also the purple cap winner of IPL 2017.
RTM Card Use:
Although Sunrisers Hyderabad was permitted to use three RTM card during IPL auction, they only use it twice. Using their first RTM they retained their star opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan. Shikhar has been a star performer in IPL. He is also the opening batsman in the Indian cricket team. So no surprise that SRH retained him using RTM card.
The second RTM, SRH used to retain is for the mystery spinner from Afghanistan, Rashid Khan. Rashid was exceptionally well for Sunrisers last year. Young Afghani bowler was sold at a very high price of ₹ 9 crores, but Sunrisers Hyderabad used their RTM to retain him with the side.
The smart Buy:
Sunrisers Hyderabad bought star batsman of KKR, Manish Pandey at a very high cost of ₹11 crores. He has been an asset to KKR’s middle order for a long time. SHR used to suffer from the middle order problems, so this catch form Sunrisers Hyderabad is a good bid.
Another KKR player they bought is Shakib Al Hasan. This buy is also a good call by SRH because he can come handy with ball and bat both.
With 11 genuine bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Chris Jorden etc. Sunrisers Hyderabad is looking pretty good in the bowling department. Shakib Al Hasan is also a good option to bowl at middle overs as he used to do for KKR.
The batting at the top as the opening combination, David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan are looking one of the best opening combinations in the IPL. Yusuf Pathan, Manish Pandey, Ken Williamson, Wriddhiman Saha and Deepak Huda can provide solid middle order stability, which Sunrisers Hyderabad used to lack in past seasons.
Sunrisers Hyderabad mostly depends on their top order batting, they need to improve their middle order performance. Sunrisers Hyderabad needs a finisher who can finish the game in aggressive mode but they seem lacking in this department. However, they have Yusuf Pathan but he has been out of international cricket for a long time. Shakib can be a good option, but he is not that dynamic at the end.
Having 8 overseas players can also create a dilemma for the captain to choose the overseas players. So captain has to be very wise to select the final 4 overseas players in the plying 11.
