Bengaluru. IPL auction 2018; platform is now all set. The bidding of world’s biggest cricket event will start from tomorrow. The players of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be auctioned over this weekend, January 27–28, in Bengaluru. The event is likely to start at 9 am from tomorrow.

A total number of 1122 players have registered for the 11th season of IPL this year. This number is highest in the history of IPL. The list of cricketers who made the registration has been sent to all eight franchise teams. The auction will feature 578 players this weekend, in all with 361 of them are Indian.

Fever of next season of the IPL is already all over the places. Especially the enthusiasm of the fans has increased after the return of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals to the IPL.

Significantly, the most foreign players in the IPL 11 auction are from Australia and South Africa. This time England captain Joe Root is also running for the first time in the IPL auction.

Batsman Gautam Gambhir, all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, veteran Harbhajan Singh and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin are also included in the list of the auction. Due to the restriction of WADA star player, Yusuf Pathan’s case is still pending in the auction.

West Indian Chris Gayle, Ben Stokes, Chris Lynn, Mitchell Starc, Dwayne Bravo and Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga are also included in the list of the auction. Apart from Ajinkya Rahane, Lokesh Rahul, Murali Vijay and Kuldeep Yadav, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell, all-rounder Shane Watson and Mitchell Johnson are also on the list.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, retained their 3 players each. While Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders retained their 2 players each. And only 1 player was retained by Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals to their respective teams.

It is noticeable that Gautam Gambhir, who has made Kolkata Knight Riders champion in his captaincy twice, has not been retained by his franchise team.

Rules for Retaining Players:

If a franchise decides to retain their three players, then Rs. 33 crores will be deducted from their budget of Rs. 80 crores. The first player who got retained will get Rs 15 crore, the second player will get Rs 11 crore and 7 crore rupees will be given to the third retained player.

MI, DD, CSK and RCB belongs to this category. Now they have a balance of Rs. 47 crores in their respective accounts for bidding.

If a franchisee chooses to retain only two players, then a total of Rs. 21 crores will be deducted from their budget. The first player who got retained will get Rs 12.5 crore and the other player will receive Rs 8.5 crore.

Therefore, the team which retains only two players will be able to enter the auction with an amount of Rs. 59 crores. KKR and SRH now belong to this category.

If a franchisee chooses to retain only one player, then his total budget of Rs 80 crores will be cut by 12.5 crores. This amount will be paid to the retained player.

Therefore, the team which retains only one player will go with the amount of Rs 67.5 crore in the auction. RR and KXIP now belong to this category.

This is noticeable that, it is not necessary that the amount is deducted from franchise’s balance for retaining players, will be paid to the retained players exactly. It depends on Franchise that, how much they pay to the players.

Right to Match Card System:

Right-to-match card gives the respective franchise the opportunity to buy back its player during the auction, by matching the highest bid made for the player by another franchise.

The teams who have decided to retain one or two players can use 3 right to match cards during the auction. At the same time, the teams who retained three players will be able to use this card for only 2 times during the auction.

IPL Squad Length for 2018:

Every team will be permitted to have a maximum number of 25 players and minimum of 18. Only up to 8 overseas players are allowed to have in a franchise team
