#1. Sunil Gavaskar was the first player to cross the 10,000 run mark in Test cricket. In 1987, he achieved this milestone in his last series against Pakistan. He has scored 10,122 Test runs in his career. Australian legend Allan Border in 1993 broke his this record.
#2. Sunil Gavaskar also created a record of the highest centuries. In his 16-year career, Gavaskar scored 34 centuries. Gavaskar’s record was not easily broken. This record was broken by master blaster Sachin Tendulkar in 2005.
#3. Gavaskar still persists the record of scoring the most runs in a debut series. In the 1970-71 West Indies tour, Gavaskar scored 774 runs in his debut series. Apart from this, no player has scored more runs on Caribbean land in a series.
#4. There was a deep connection between Gavaskar and the West Indies. While West Indies, bowlers were on fire, Gavaskar was not less than a nightmare for indies’ bowlers. Gavaskar played 27 Test matches against West Indies and scored 13 hundred in those matches. This record still persists.
#5. In addition to the splendid batting, Sunil Gavaskar is also known for his fine fielding. Gavaskar is the first Indian cricketer to catch 100 catches.
