The Blues are keen to sign goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga of Athletic Bilbao as per sources. Chelsea is hopeful that the Spaniard goalkeeper will be making his debut with the Blues on Saturday against Huddersfield in their season opener.
Chelsea is looking forward to flying him to London on Wednesday so that he could train with the club before the faceoff against Huddersfield.
It is being largely speculated that Kepa Arrizabalaga will make the move to Chelsea for 71.6 million Euros. This would be the record transfer ever for a goalkeeper if this comes to be.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has become the new choice of the Blues as they look to replace Thibaut Courtois who is making the move to Real Madrid.
Diego Rico and Jack Butland are among the other choices that Chelsea is considering. The transfer window will close on Thursday and the Blues need to decide the earliest.
Most probably they will be making a choice between Butland and Kepa Arrizabalaga to take Courtois’ place in the side. As of now, Chelsea is in advanced talks to have Azzizabalaga on their side.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper from Spain has been playing for Athletic Bilbao since 2016 having featured in 53 matches. He also featured once for the Spain national team in the year 2017.
The price might be an issue:
Butland will come to Chelsea for a moderate deal of 30 million Euros while Arrizabalaga comes with a hefty price-tag. So, whom would Chelsea choose ultimately?
