IPL 2018: 71 Runs Loss Will Haunt Delhi Daredevils In The Remaining Tournament

Delhi Daredevils were handed over a 71 run defeat by the Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday at the Eden Gardens. Given the T20 format, this would be counted as a huge defeat in terms of margin. Gautam Gambhir who returned to the Eden Gardens in a different jersey decided to bowl first after winning the toss. The decision turned out to be a nightmare for the Delhi Daredevils as Kolkata Knight Riders posted 200 in their 20 overs. In response, Delhi Daredevils were wrapped up for just 129 in 14.2 overs.

Andre Russel and Nitish Rana took the Delhi Daredevils’ bowlers to the cleaners and posted a mammoth and daunting total. Nitish Rana made a magnificent half-century on the way to his knock of 59 from just 35 balls. Andre Russel too blasted the opposition with a fiery knock of 41 from just 12 deliveries. Delhi bowlers went for plenty as the Delhi Daredevils leaked runs in plenty.

DAREDEVILS MADE A MESS OF THE CHASE

Chasing the humungous total, Delhi Daredevils never looked in control. While they needed a flying start to fancy their chances, the openers miserably failed. Skipper Gambhir managed just 8 while the star of the last game, Jason Roy scored just 1. Sent in to bat at number 3, even Shreyas Iyer failed to give Daredevils any hope. Shreyas got out for just 4 and the trail of misery continued.

Glenn Maxwell and Rishabh Pant gave Delhi some hope with knocks of 47 and 43 respectively. From being 86 for 4 DD were all out on just 129 and this would have dented their morale badly. It was a poor show put up by Delhi Daredevils’ batsmen and this loss will haunt Delhi in the rest of the tournament. They have to get over this defeat as soon as possible and look to bounce back in the tournament.

DD now find themselves in the bottom half of the points table with just one win from 4 games. They would be keen to bounce back in the tournament for its still a long way to go. Let us see what Delhi Daredevils do from here to keep themselves alive in the tournament.
