IPL 2018: Kolkata Knight Riders sign Tom Curran replacing injured Mitchell Starc

Since IPL is a long tournament so some players do get injured but this year, the IPL 2018 tournament is not even started yet and the number of injured players is increasing day by day. In the same sequence of injured players, Kolkata Knight Riders replaced their injured star Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc with English death over specialist Tom Curran.

KKR has announced the name of English fast bowler Tom Curran as an alternative to injured fast bowler Mitchell Starc. The KKR team bought this 23-year-old fast bowler for his base price ₹ 1 crores. Earlier, KKR spent ₹ 9.4 crores on Mitchell Starc. This is the very first time when Curran will play in IPL.

A media release by BCCI on Monday stated: “Curran was picked for INR 1.62 crore from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP) list.”

On his selection, Curran said he was thrilled and excited to be joining Kolkata. He also made a tweet from his Twitter account showing his excitement to play in IPL.

“I know from chatting to other players I can learn a lot from being in that environment, skills that I hope will benefit Surrey and my chances of representing England again this year and if selected, for next year’s World Cup.” He added.

Young English player has not got many chances in the international cricket matches. He has so far taken 7 wickets in his 6 T20 Internationals. Tom Curran made his debut in T-20 in 2014 playing from Surrey. After this, he has played 51 T20 matches so far and has picked 53 wickets. His best performance is 35/4 in T20 cricket. He has also taken 90 wickets in his 60 List ‘A’ matches. In the first-class matches, he has been named 173 wickets.

Starc suffered a leg injury during the third test match against South Africa, after which he withdrew his name from the IPL along with the Test series due to a stress fracture. Significantly, Starc has been out of the IPL for the third consecutive time due to injury. Earlier, the Royal Challenger Bangalore had to face their shortcomings and this time it’s Kolkata’s turn.
