IPL 2018 Playoffs: One Place, Three Teams, Who will go through?

IPL 2018 Playoffs. The cricket adventure in IPL 11 is at its peak. The league phase has reached its last stop. By defeating Sunrisers on Saturday, Kolkata Knight Riders became the third team qualify for playoffs. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings have already confirmed their place in the playoffs.

But which team would be the fourth team to reach the playoffs will be decided after the last two league fixtures of IPL 2018 on Sunday.

The first match will be played between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians. The last match of the league will be held at Pune between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. Let’s try to know the equations for the fourth place in playoffs.

Mumbai Indians’ chances and Match No. 55 (DD vs MI):

This match will be a do or die match for Mumbai Indians. If MI lose, then they will be out directly from the playoffs. Whereas, if MI win then they will be most likely to reach the playoffs. Mumbai Indians (+0.384) have a huge advantage in net run rate compared to Rajasthan Royals (-0.250) and Kings XI Punjab (-0.490).

So if MI win the match anyhow then they will be in the playoffs most likely. But if DD defeat MI in this match then KXIP and RR will have a chance to qualify for playoffs.

Kings XI Punjab’s chances and Match No. 56 (CSK vs KXIP):

The possibilities to qualify in playoffs for Kings XI Punjab are only open if MI lose their match against DD on Sunday. Apart from this, they will have to beat Chennai Super Kings by more than 53 runs or will have to achieve the target given by CSK in 13.4 overs. Only, in this case, KXIP’s net run rate will be higher than RR and can qualify for the playoffs.

Rajasthan Royals’ Chances and Last two Matches:

RR’s chances to qualify for the playoffs depend on the defeat of Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. These are RR’s equations to qualify for playoffs:

  • Mumbai Indians lose their match against Delhi Daredevils
  • Kings XI Punjab lose their match against Chennai Super Kings.
  • Chennai Super Kings lose their match against KXIP but KXIP could bot get the required net run rate.
