IPL 2018: Rajasthan Royals Replaced Steve Smith with Proteas Hard Hitter Heinrich Klaasen

After the ban on Steve Smith, Rajasthan Royals found his replacement in the team. After Smith’s exit from IPL-2018 confirmed by BCCI, the South African player Heinrich Klassen has been included in the Rajasthan Royals team in place of him. Rajasthan Royals bought this Proteas wicket-keeper-batsman Klassen at the base price of ₹ 50 lakhs. Earlier, SunRisers Hyderabad also announced the replacement of David Warner with English Batsman Alex Hales.

After found guilty in the incident of ball-tampering, Cricket Australia put a one-year ban on Steve Smith and David Warner. After this, BCCI also banned both Smith and Warner in the IPL 2018. Although both Smith and Warner had already left the captaincy of their own IPL teams. After the resignation of Smith from captaincy, Rajasthan Royals appointed Ajinkya Rahane as their captain.

A Press release from BCCI states “The Rajasthan Royals have picked Heinrich Klaasen as the replacement for Steve Smith. The wicket-keeper batsman was picked for INR 50 lakh from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP) list.”

Heinrich Klaasen, the wicketkeeper-batsman from South Africa has been selected by the Rajasthan Royals because he had done well in both, the ODI and T20 series against India recently. The 26-year-old player made his debut against India. He also got awarded as Man of the Match in both his ODI and T20 debuts. This shows his potential in limited overs cricket.

Heinrich Klaasen, the wicketkeeper-batsman has played 3 T20I for South Africa and with an average of 30.66, he has scored 92 runs. Klaasen has also played 4 ODIs for his country and scored 110 runs at an average of 36.66. So he is showing quite a good promising performance in limited overs cricket. IPL can be a life-changing tournament for Klaasen if he performs well.
