Centurian. The second one day international of six-match ODI series will be played at Super Sports Park, Centurion on Sunday. India is leading the ODI series by 1-0 as men in blue won the first match of the series comfortably. Now India will look to continue the winning momentum and will try to extend their lead in the series.
After winning the last test and first ODI, India is looking at the totally balanced flow. Bowlers of Indian team used to perform well throughout the series now batsmen also joined them by finding their rhythm.
However, India won the first ODI but Indian opening Batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan did not look in good form. Rohit has been struggling to score runs since the test series. Shikhar just joined the team for ODIs in South Africa. They both now need to focus on their forms as well as their understandings.
Proteas star player AB de Villiers is already out of first three ODIs and now their captain and the century scorer of the first match Faf du Plessis is also out from the whole series due to his finger injury. The captaincy is now on the shoulders of very less experienced Aiden Markram.
It’s shocking that 23 years old and only 2 matches old player is named as captain. Although Markram said that “It’s a big honour. The selectors showing confidence in me to take over, it means quite a bit. It’s a super humbling experience, but yes, we’re going to need to do this for Faf, I believe,”
“I think it’s something that you can’t take for granted. I really enjoy captaining but it’s an unexpected thing. Like I said it was a freak incident with Faf and this has all just happened so quickly,” the young player said.
South Africa is struggling to maintain balance in the middle order and now after injury of their captain Faf du Plessis, this is going to be much harder for them. However, De Villiers will be available from the fourth match of the series. He was ruled out for first three matches after having an injury in last test match. But Proteas need to maintain balance in the squad until his return.
South Africa is number one in ICC ODI ranking and now when du Plessis is gone, the responsibility to protect their first place crown lies on the experienced players of the team like Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy and David Miller.
