Suresh Raina has been a valuable member of Indian Cricket team. Nowadays he is playing three-match T20 series against South Africa. However, his performance has not been satisfactory in the first two match of the series, but still, he can get a chance to play the upcoming T20 Tri-Series in Sri Lanka.
After returning from South Africa, India will tour Sri Lanka for Nidahas Trophy. This T20 Tri-Series will be played between 6 – 18 March. This special T20 tri-series featuring Bangladesh as well along with India and Sri Lanka. This Nidahas Trophy will be organized to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence.
The selection committee of BCCI led by MSK Prasad will meet this week. In this meeting, they will select the team for this Indian tour of Sri Lanka. It’s possible that selection committee would select Suresh Raina again in the Indian squad, even after not performing satisfactorily in South Africa. This is because Indian Captain Virat Kohli and Coach Ravi Shastri want to provide some more chances to Suresh Raina to prove himself before going to the World Cup next year. It’s noticeable that England will host the ICC World Cup 2019.
Raina has played 18 tests, 223 ODIs and 67 T20Is for India so far. He is one of the most valuable players in IPL as well as the highest run scorer of the IPL tournament. India is still searching a permanent player to bet at number 4 in ODIs but could not find yet. However, Ajinkya Rahane was tested at that spot in ODIs against South Africa but he failed completely. So if Suresh Raina performs well then He might be the better option at number four to bat.
In Indian cricket team, Shikhar Dhawan is the only left-hander batsman and he opens the inning. In this situation, India is looking another left-hander batsman in the middle order. The left and the right-hand combination provide difficulties for bowlers of opposition and Suresh Raina fits this category as well. So he is the best option to test before ICC World Cup 2019
Just After the tour of Sri Lanka, IPL 2018 Tournament will start from 11th April. Many regular Indian players could be given rest before IPL including captain Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jaspreet Bumrah. In this situation, the second line up of Indian bench strength (the young players) could get a chance to play in the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka. Along with them Suresh Raina can also get another chance to play for India and prove his value in the tri-series.
