Kimi Raikkonen who will join Sauber in 2019 after being replaced by Charles Leclerc at Ferrari will be joined by Antonio Giovinazzi. Giovinazzi will be promoted to Sauber for the 2019 Formula 1 season and will be the teammate of Kimi Raikkonen.
Sauber explained that the decision to induct Giovinazzi is based on the tradition of discovering and nurturing young talents.
The statement was given by Sauber further added that this move to have the 24-year-old driver onboard is particularly significant in the scope of the project with Alfa Romeo, the title sponsor.
The 2019 F1 deal with Sauber will be the maiden full-time racing chance since his GP 2 campaign that came two years ago.
Ferrari has the leverage to nominate one driver for Sauber through its technical partnership and the tie-up with Alfa Romeo.
As for this year, Ferrari had placed Leclerc there. Charles Leclerc will replace Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari in the 2019 season becoming the new teammate of Sebastian Vettel in the next F1 season. Experts feel that Leclerc is meant to stay at Ferrari for long.
Antonio Giovinazzi was the runner-up to 2019 Red Bull Racing driver Pierre Gasly at the 16 GP2 titles.

Sauber is happy to have a blend of experience and young age enthusiasm in the pair of Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi. So, Giovinazzi will be replacing Charles Leclerc at Sauber as Leclerc moves to Ferrari next year.
