The unfortunate demise of former Ferrari Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne marked a sad day in the world of F1. The 66-year-old Marchionne was admitted to the hospital for a shoulder surgery but after his shoulder surgery, his condition deteriorated rapidly. Reports suggest that an embolism led to a coma.
The news of his demise comes only a few days after Ferrari had announced a succession plan. On July 21 Ferrari reported that Sergio Marchionne will not be able to return to work and hence announced his replacements.
While John Elkann was announced the Chairman, Louis C Camilleri was made the Chief Executive Officer.
Tributes poured in from the world of F1 and fans for Sergio Marchionne from all across the world. Sergio Marchionne became the chairman of Ferrari in 2014 after replacing Luca Di Montezemolo.

F1 CEO Chase Carey stated that Sergio Marchionne was not just a great leader of F1 or the automobile industry but of the entire business world. He said that Marchionne led with great passion, insight and energy hence inspiring everyone around him.
Chase Carey further added that the contributions of Marchionne are beyond being measurable. Chase Carey said that Marchionne was a true friend to everyone and will be badly missed.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff also expressed his sorrow at the sad demise of Sergio Marchionne. He said that it as a sad day for everyone related to F1.
