Would want to finish at least close to Schumacher’s record: Hamilton

2018 has been a great year of Lewis Hamilton. At the Mexican GP, although he finished fourth, he clinched his fifth world championship title. He’s now only behind the legendary Michael Schumacher in terms of most championship wins. While Lewis Hamilton has five world championships to his name at present, Michael Schumacher has seven.

Lewis Hamilton has set a target for himself to end up at least being somewhere close to Michael Schumacher’s record before the former hangs his boots. Lewis Hamilton now has 71 race wins to his name in addition to 132 podiums in his career.

He’s inching towards Michael Schumacher’s tally of 91 wins and 155 podiums both of which are respective world records. The big question is can Lewis Hamilton can get any close to Schumacher when it comes to the difference between their career race wins.

The Mercedes driver is now 33 and will perhaps have at least two more seasons at F1. His tie-up with Mercedes will come to an end in 2020 and then if we would still want to race is something that remains to be seen.

Lewis refuses to take anything for granted like he always says.

Hamilton said that 91 race wins by Schumacher are way too much to catch up with but since he’s here for a few more seasons, he will look to at least get any closer to the milestones Michael Schumacher has achieved.

Schumacher was a genius: Lewis Hamilton

The current world champion heaped praises on former F1 star Michael Schumacher. Lewis said that Schumacher was a genius who applied himself perfectly in the mid-90s.

Between 2000 and 2004 Michael Schumacher had set a streak of five straight championship wins.
