South Africa vs India 6th ODI. Centurion. India won the last match of the six-match ODI series against South Africa and grabbed the six-match ODI series by 5-1. But Shikhar Dhawan (18) and Virat Kohli (129*) stood strong and put 61 runs partnership for the second wicket. After the departure of Dhawan at the team score of 80 runs, Kohli continued with Ajinkya Rahane (34*). Both build an unbeatable partnership of 126 runs and Indian Captain completed his 35th ODI ton.

Hence India won the 6th ODI and sealed the series by 5-1. Now, when India finished so well, then this confidence is definitely going to help in the up-coming three-match T20 series against the hosts.

Earlier after winning the toss India captain Virat Kohli opted to bat second. The South African team was on the ground to bat last time in this ODI series. Proteas had the last chance to play for their pride but they failed again. No proteas batsmen could stand against the Indian bowlers and bowl out at 204 runs only. Khaya Zondo (54) was the only batsmen who could pass the 50 runs mark and rest failed to score high.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was playing continuous international cricket for long, so he was given rest in the 6th match. He was replaced by pacer Shardul Thakur. Shardul Thakur grabbed the opportunity and sent back four South African batsmen to the pavilion.

Thakur (4/54) also broke the first wicket partnership of the hosts, taking the wicket of Hashim Amla (10) on the team score of 23 runs. Jaspreet Bumrah and Hardik Pandya picked 2 wickets each and 1 wicket each picked by both the wrist spinners, Yajuvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.

South Africa was playing their last ODI of the summer. After the 6th ODI against India Protease will play against Shri Lanka in July. So they had this last chance to finish on high before going to the T20 series later in this month and end the summer, but they missed it. South Africa even could not stand against India for all 50 overs as they got all out within 47 overs only.

South Africa – 204/10 (46.5 Overs)

Jose Mourinho hits out at media once again for wrong reports over alleged bust-up with Paul Pogba

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has hit out at claims stating that relations with midfielder Paul Pogba have been damaged. Due to the Frenchman’s dwindling playing time, many believed it was down to ha bust up with the manager, probably punishing him for his actions.

The 23-year-old has been subbed off twice in his last three league games for the Old Trafford outfit, while being left out on the bench for the third one, thus not allowing to play the entire course of the game for three matches in a row. This led to reports stating that Mourinho has a problem with him, while certain news stories went on to state that Pogba regrets picking United over Real Madrid as they are unwilling to play a midfield three, which would benefit his game.

Addressing claims of a bust up, Mourinho said (via ESPN): “A big lie that our relation is not good, that we don’t communicate, that we don’t agree with his positions and his involvement in the dynamic of the team so be objective and say what we all know.

“In the last couple of matches he didn’t play well. Period. End of story. Now it’s my problem and Paul’s to improve his performance level, you don’t need to be a liar.”

Many have been critical of Pogba’s performances of late and have blamed Mourinho and his system for failing to get the best out of the Frenchman. The critics continue to state that United need to build the team around Pogba and that Mourinho must start playing to the player’s strengths or he might end up losing a player with world-class potential.

However, the Portuguese was hell-bent that the midfielder has been played in his preferred position and it is now down to him to regain his form and start performing once again for the Red Devils.

“The position is quite ridiculous. I would like you to tell me which position Pogba played in against Newcastle. Any one of you want to tell me?

“We play with Matic as a six, Lingard on the right side of Matic and Pogba on the left side. You know which is the Pogba preferred system? 433. Do you know Pogba’s favourite position in 433? Eight on the left.

“So it’s easy and honest and objective to say Paul didn’t play well against Newcastle but some of the guys are paid millions, don’t let people read things that are not true, you are paid to read the game and explain the game, don’t say bulls—.”

South Africa vs India 5th ODI

South Africa vs India 5th ODI. Port Elizabeth. India finally triumphed the six-match series, winning the 5th ODI at St. George’s Park, Port Elizabeth by 73 runs. India put in the series by 4-1 and there is still one match to go in the series. This is India’s first ever ODI Series win on the South African soil.

South Africa came to chase down the 274 runs target set by India. Batting in the second inning, South Africa first started solidly as their openers Hashim Amla (73) and Aiden Markram (32) provided them with a good start, putting 52 runs partnership for the first wicket. Then Jaspreet Bumrah (1/22) and Hardi Kandya (2/30) came into play and sent back their top order.

Indian wrist-spinners Kuldeep Yadav (4/57) and Yajuvendra Chahal (2/43) again showed their magic at the spin-friendly pitch of Port Elizabeth. They both together took 6 wickets and wrap the rest of the Proteas batsmen. Hence flop show of South African batters continued.

Earlier South African captain won the toss and preferred to chasing the score. But his decision did not go well as India managed 48 runs partnership for the first wicket. However, Shikhar Dhawan (35) departed early by Kagiso Rabada (1/58), but centurion Rohit Sharma (115) and captain Virat Kohli (36) put together a solid partnership of 105 runs for the second wicket. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma scored his 17th ODI century at St. George’s Park and roared back in form.

Rohit was going through the bad form in the current tour of India on the South African soil. He only managed to score 40 runs in the first 4 ODI games. But here at Port Elizabeth on Tuesday, he overcame all the odds and slammed his 17th ODI ton. He smashed 4 sixes and 10 fours during his inning. With the help of Rohit’s hundred, India managed to reach a decent total of 274/7 in 50 overs.

Ajinkya Rahane again disappointed his fans as he could only score 8 runs. Rohit Sharma also put a partnership of 60 runs for the 4th wicket with young Shreyash Iyer (30). After the dismissal of Rohit at the team score of 236 in 43rd over, no Indian batsmen could manage to stay firm at the crease against the hosts. Hence India could not finish well as expected in the end and only managed to score 38 runs more on last 47 balls.

India – 274/7 (50 Overs)

South Africa – 201/10 (42.2)

Real Madrid vs Paris St. Germain Preview: Probable Lineups, Team News, Prediction, Stats

0

Real Madrid and Paris St. Germain are set to take each other on in what should prove to be one of the games of the season in the UEFA Champions League. It will be an interesting one for the neutral as two highly valued sides with contrasting league performances will square off in a two-legged tie.

Spanish side Real Madrid have not been at their flying best in the league this season as they find themselves a mammoth 17 points behind leaders and rivals FC Barcelona. Cristiano Ronaldo has been extremely inconsistent, which has led to the decline of the capital outfit.

On the other hand, PSG are riding on the back of the summer acquisitions of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe as they’re comfortably leading the Ligue 1 standings with a 12 point cushion over second-placed AS Monaco. Edinson Cavani has also been firing on all cylinders – making their attacking trio slightly more imposing than that of Real Madrid.

Team News

A major absence for Zinedine Zidane’s men will be on the right side of defence. Right-back Dani Carvajal is ruled out of the game through suspension, leaving either Achraf or Nacho to deputise for him.

Barring the Spaniard, there are expected to be no more players missing from the first team. Fringe players such as Luca Zidane, Dani Ceballos and Jesus Vallejo have also been ruled out for the game.

For PSG, there aren’t any fitness concerns, barring a minor hindrance to Cavani – which he is expected to shrug off to take part in Wednesday’s game. Apart from that, Unai Emery has a full strength squad at his disposal to take the game to Real Madrid.

Stats

1. There have been three or more goals in 18 of Real Madrid’s last 19 games in the Champions League.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo is the runaway leader for goals in this season’s competition with nine while Neymar and Cavani sit joint second with six strikes to their name.

3. Marco Verratti has completed the second-highest number of passes (541) in the league this season.

Probable Lineups

Real Madrid: Navas; Nacho, Ramos, Varane, Marcelo; Casemiro, Modric, Kroos; Bale, Benzema, Ronaldo.

PSG: Areola; Alves, Marquinhos, Silva, Kurzawa; Celso, Verratti, Rabiot; Mbappe, Cavani, Neymar.

Prediction

Real Madrid 1-1 PSG

Madrid will be missing Carvajal on the right, and it is something Neymar could look to take full advantage of. Despite struggling in the final third of late, the hosts are expected to breach the opposition defence, and Ronaldo will be looking to torment the PSG defenders.

South Africa vs India 5th ODI Preview

South Africa vs India 5th ODI Preview. Port Elizabeth. Leaving the bitter memories of Johannesburg ODI behind, India will resume the hunt for their maiden ODI series triumph at South African Soil. South Africa bounced back in the six-match ODI series by winning the pink ODI at New Wanders, Johannesburg on Saturday. India is still in the strong position to win the series as they are ahead of Protease by 3-1.

South Africa will definitely charge their spirit with the last win over India. Protease played well in the last rain-affected pink ODI (DLS) and knocked India back. South Africa chased down the revised target of 202 runs and won the match by 5 wickets. However, any South African batsmen did not make a high score but all-together they anyhow managed to chase down the target with 15 balls remaining.

The confidence of South African players would have risen with this win. The comeback of star player AB de Villiers from the 4th ODI is also a plus point for the hosts. However, he failed to make a big score in the previous match but his presence can not be ignored.

St. George’s Park is known for its spin-friendly pitch. So the two wrist-spinners of Indian team Yajuvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are now again on the focus. They both have been wonderful for India so far. Jaspreet Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are also doing a good job in their department. However, in the last match bowlers were not used properly by captain Kohli.

The batting of Indian team is still a subject of concern. Failure of Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane at the top order and runs missing from the middle order batsmen should be the measure issues for Indian captain and coach. Kedar Jadhav’s injury is also a matter to worry as he did not play the last game at Johannesburg.

When and where to watch the 5th ODI:

The live action of 5th ODI between South Africa and India at St. George’s Park, Port Elizabeth will begin at 04:30 PM IST ( 1100 Hrs GMT) on the Sony Ten Network. However, the live match can be seen online on SONY LIV APP and its website.

Arsene Wenger admits Alexandre Lacazette’s confidence has been affected post the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

0
(IAN KINGTON/AFP/Getty Images)

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has put pressure on striker Alexandre Lacazette and the Frenchman is low on confidence because of the competition for places at the club.

Prior to Aubameyang’s arrival, Lacazette was the club record signing and the man to take the side forward given the uncertainty looming over the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. Things started off well for the Frenchman as he hit the ground running in the Premier League and began to bag goals week in and week out. However, since then his numbers have dwindled, leaving the board with no option but to look for another striker in the summer.

After the completion of the Henrikh Mkhitaryan-Alexis Sanchez swap, Arsenal saw another deal go over the line as Aubameyang joined on deadline day in a three-way deal including Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud.

(Victoria Jones/PA)

His arrival has seen Lacazette playing second fiddle to the Gabonese – something that he is not accustomed to in his entire club career. Speaking about the lack of goals in the Frenchman’s game, Wenger said:

“For him, one against one with the goalkeeper, he is a good goal scorer. He has gone through difficult periods before. He works hard in training, works on his finishing.

“I don’t know what happened, did he not touch the ball well? It can happen, it is a fraction of a second. Maybe the confidence is not at its highest because he has seen a competitor coming in for him.”

The question of his lack of confidence arose after his tame showing in Saturday’s North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Lacazette had two glorious chances to get the Gunners back into the game, but he squandered both his efforts, leaving his side with nothing from their travels to the Wembley Stadium.

If he is to shut his critics once and for all, it is essential that he adds to his rather modest showing of nine goals from 29 games this season. The next few games may be essential in deciding the long-term future of the former Lyon striker at the Emirates Stadium.

Opinion: Is Kevin de Bruyne as good as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo?

0
(Michael Regan/Getty Images)

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has told his attacking midfielder Kevin de Bruyne to guide his side to the UEFA Champions League trophy if he is to be considered equal to or even better than FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo – the only two players to win the Ballon d’Or since 2009.

In a recent press conference, Pep said: “You have to be there in the latter stages. Without the latter stages you will not be nominated.

“He [De Bruyne] knows and everyone knows to be there (in contention for the Ballon d’Or) you have to win titles, and titles and titles. Especially one.”

He also put in a word about the player’s consistency and how he is constantly improving and taking his game to the next level, which in turn has been beneficial to the entire Manchester City setup.

“He is not playing like this in just one game,” Pep added. “It’s the whole season – every three days – playing that way.

“The way he’s played it’s difficult to find one (a player like it) in Europe.”

The prolific Belgian moved to the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2015 for a then club-record fee of £55 million – which was recently eclipsed by Aymeric Laporte’s January transfer window acquisition.

Initially, it seemed that City had made a risky investment on a player that had struggled to cope with life in the Premier League. Due to his lack of physicality coupled by Jose Mourinho’s rigorous training regimes at Chelsea, de Bruyne left England to become a superstar at Wolfsburg.

Despite setting the Bundesliga alight with his scintillating play, doubts still lingered in the media and fans alike as to whether the player is tailor-made for the Premier League. However, three seasons in England and de Bruyne already seems to be a complete player destined for world class status at Manchester City.

This season in particular, the Belgian has performed beyond expectations to make the Citizens tick and has made them one of the continent’s most exciting teams to watch. He leads the assists charts in the league by setting up 14 goals in 27 appearances, and is expected to make it into the Team of the Season and possible receive a PFA Player of the Year nomination as well.

While many believe de Bruyne is a world-class talent, Guardiola does make a fair point about a Champions League winners medal. The best of the best are always the ones that lead their teams to glory in the toughest of competitions, and winning against Europe’s elite is something that every Manchester City supporter will be dreaming of.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both won 4 Champions League title

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have both been pivotal to guiding their sides to Champions League and Club World Cup glory – something which de Bruyne is still to attain. However, the Belgian has the advantage of youth over the two and is currently in his prime, unlike Messi and Ronaldo who are closer to calling it a day from the game within the next few years.

The Belgian may not be at their level as yet in regards to silverware, but when you consider him as an individual and what he brings to the table for his side, he deserves to be right in there with the world’s best.

IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Sunrisers Hyderabad

0

Sunrisers Hyderabad was introduced in Indian Premier League in the year 2012. The Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise is introduced after the permanent suspension of Deccan Chargers Hyderabad. 2013 was the SRH’s first IPL season. They are the winner of IPL 2016 title under the captaincy of David Warner. David Warner has been one man army for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

It is noticeable that SRH did not retain or RTM their star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj Singh was the costliest player of the IPL tournament before this IPL Auction 2018 and SRH was the team to pay that high amount for him. They also let go their star overseas bowler Mustafizur Rahman.

SRH’s batting has been always exceptional at the top of the order as their captain leads them at the top, but middle order has always been a problem for them. Let’s see did they work on this issue at IPL Auction 2018? Here is a complete analysis of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad for IPL 2018.

Also, see IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Rajasthan Royals

The Retained Players:

As every franchise team of the IPL was allowed to retain its maximum three existing players in the team. But SRH only retained their two players. One of them is their IPL title-winning captain David Warner. David Warner is one of the best T20 players in the world cricket. He is one of the most destructive opening batsmen as well, as he can turn the game by himself only. He has also proved himself a good captain to the side as well. SRH batting mostly depends on him.

Another player SRH retained is Indian Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one of the most destructive and wicket taking bowlers in IPL tournament. He was also the purple cap winner of IPL 2017.

Also, see IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Mumbai Indians

RTM Card Use:

Although Sunrisers Hyderabad was permitted to use three RTM card during IPL auction, they only use it twice. Using their first RTM they retained their star opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan. Shikhar has been a star performer in IPL. He is also the opening batsman in the Indian cricket team. So no surprise that SRH retained him using RTM card.

The second RTM, SRH used to retain is for the mystery spinner from Afghanistan, Rashid Khan. Rashid was exceptionally well for Sunrisers last year. Young Afghani bowler was sold at a very high price of ₹ 9 crores, but Sunrisers Hyderabad used their RTM to retain him with the side.

Also, see IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Kolkata Knight Riders

The smart Buy:

Sunrisers Hyderabad bought star batsman of KKR, Manish Pandey at a very high cost of ₹11 crores. He has been an asset to KKR’s middle order for a long time. SHR used to suffer from the middle order problems, so this catch form Sunrisers Hyderabad is a good bid.

Another KKR player they bought is Shakib Al Hasan. This buy is also a good call by SRH because he can come handy with ball and bat both.

Also, see IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Chennai Super Kings

Strengths:

With 11 genuine bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Chris Jorden etc. Sunrisers Hyderabad is looking pretty good in the bowling department. Shakib Al Hasan is also a good option to bowl at middle overs as he used to do for KKR.

The batting at the top as the opening combination, David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan are looking one of the best opening combinations in the IPL. Yusuf Pathan, Manish Pandey, Ken Williamson, Wriddhiman Saha and Deepak Huda can provide solid middle order stability, which Sunrisers Hyderabad used to lack in past seasons.

Limitations:

Sunrisers Hyderabad mostly depends on their top order batting, they need to improve their middle order performance. Sunrisers Hyderabad needs a finisher who can finish the game in aggressive mode but they seem lacking in this department. However, they have Yusuf Pathan but he has been out of international cricket for a long time. Shakib can be a good option, but he is not that dynamic at the end.

Having 8 overseas players can also create a dilemma for the captain to choose the overseas players. So captain has to be very wise to select the final 4 overseas players in the plying 11.

South Africa vs India 4th ODI: Proteas Stayed Alive in the Series, South Africa Won by 5 Wickets (DLS)

South Africa vs India 4th ODI

South Africa vs India 4th ODI. Johannesburg. South Africa anyhow managed to stay alive in the six-match ODI series against India. South Africa finally won their first match in the ODI series. After 4 consecutive defeats (including last test match) against the visitors, Proteas won the 4th ODI by 5 wickets here at New Wanders, Johannesburg.

The 4th ODI at New Wanderers was halted for some time due to Thunderstorms and lightning. So using Duckworth Lewis System, match officials reduced the match and South Africa got 202 runs to achieve within 28 overs.

South Africa looked good at the start of the inning but after the fall of the first wicket of Aiden Markram (22), South Africa also started collapsing as they lost their top 4 batsmen at the score of 104 runs in 16.4 overs. AB de Villiers (26), also sent back by Hardik Pandya. David Miller (39) and Heinrich Klaasen (43*) put a solid partnership of 72 runs for the 5th wicket. They both led South Africa to the first victory of this six-match ODI series.

South Africa managed to achieve 207 runs in 25.3 overs. However, Indian bowlers tried their best to restrict the Proteas batsmen. Jaspreet Bumrah (1/21) got the first wicket early, but this was not their day today.

Earlier After winning the toss, Indian captain chose to bat first. Rohit Sharma (5) again failed the expectations and sent back early to the pavilion by Rabada. After the early dismissal of Rohit, Shikhar Dawan (109) and Virat Kohli (75) again put a solid partnership of 158 runs. Again they both together provide a solid base to the side. This partnership between Dhawan and Kohli is also the highest partnership for India against South Africa on South African Soil.

India was looking good and suddenly the bad weather as lightning and thunderstorm stopped the play for some time. After this break, South Africa jumped back into the game and Indian team started collapsing after the departure of Shikhar Dhawan at the team score of 206. However, Mahendra Singh Dhoni managed to extend the score to a decent target after 50 overs.

After the fall of Shikhar Dhawan’s wicket, no South African Bowler allowed any Indian batsmen to settle down on the crease. With the collective effort of all South African Bowlers, even after a solid start, South Africa restricted India to only 289 runs for 7 wickets.

India – 289/7 (50 overs)
South Africa – DLS 207/5 (25.3 overs)

South Africa vs India 4th ODI Preview

South Africa vs India 4th ODI Preview. Johannesburg. The platform is set for Indian cricket team to create a new history. So far India is dominating the six-match ODI series against the hosts by 3–0 and looking forward to winning its first-ever ODI series at South African Soil. Now India needs only one victory to wrap – up the series.

The Indian captain Virat Kohli has been on fire so far in the series and already scaled two hundred run marks. Shikhar Dhawan has also shown some class in last two matches. The batting looks strong at the top. With this strong performance of batsmen, India will look to seal the series here at Johannesburg on Saturday. However, Rohit Sharma’s bad form is still a matter of concern for the Indian team.

In all last three ODI matches South Africa has been failed to play Indian wrist-spinners. Yajuvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have been outstanding against the Protease. No batsmen of South Africa could play them well. So this is again going to be a plus point for India.

The South African team is not even pretending as No. 1 side as their many regular players are suffering from injuries. The good news for South Africa is, that their star 360-degree player AB de Villiers is returning to the field from tomorrow. The return of de Villiers will not only boost the batting performance of the team but also provide a positive vibe on the side.

If India wins the 4th ODI tomorrow at the ground of New Wanders, Johannesburg then India will also win the crown of ICC No. 1 ODI Team. However, once in the tour of 2010-11 India came this close to win the ODI series under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, when they were ahead by 2-1 in the series, but unfortunately, India ended up with the series loss by 3-2. So Virat and company need to learn from the previous experiences and proceed carefully.

When and where to watch the 4th ODI:

IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Rajasthan Royals

0

Rajasthan Royals are returning to the IPL tournament this year after the two years suspension. Rajasthan Royals are the winners of the very first IPL tournament 2008. The Royals returned to the IPl in royal tradition by grabbing the two costliest players of the IPL auction 2018. Rajasthan bought costliest Indian domestic player Jaydev Unadkat as well as the costliest overseas player Ben Stokes. Earlier Rajasthan was known for good cricket with underrated players.

In this years IPL auction Rajasthan Royals were very aggressive on the bidding table. They were going for everything they wanted. As they bought Ben Stokes and Jaydev Unadkat as the highest paid players in the auction. Now Rajasthan is ready with its captain Steve Smith for this years IPL battle.

Now a look at Rajsthan’s team analysis and see how strong they are looking in this years IPL.

Also, see IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Kolkata Knight Riders

The Retained Players:

As every franchise team of the IPL was allowed to retain its maximum three existing players in the team. But Rajasthan Royals were playing another game this year at the auctions and they only retained Steve Smith with them and secured 3 RTM cards to use in the auction.

Steve Smith has led Rising Pune Supergiants to the final in IPL 2017 and after taking a look at the Rajasthan’s team line-up, he is keen to be next captain as well.

RTM Card Use:

However, Royals were permitted to used their 3 right-to-match cards as they only retained their one existing player. But Rajasthan Royals used their RTM twice only.

The first RTM was used for very reliable Ajinkya Rahane and second RTM was used for veteran bowler Dhawal Kulkarni. Both the players have been the key to their batting and bowling department respectively for so long. This is a good game shown by Royals at the auctions.

Also, see IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Mumbai Indians

The Smart Buys:

Rajasthan grabbed the costliest overseas player and IPL 2017 player of the tournament Ben Stokes. This is a very clever catch by RR. Ben is one man army and he can turn any game in the favour of his team by both, bat and ball. He is one of the best all-rounder available in the game of cricket nowadays.

Rajasthan also grabbed the Mumbai Indians opener, Josh Butler. This is a great call by RR in every aspect. Butler is a very big hitter and one of the best match finisher in modern cricket.

Rajasthan also picked Jaydev Unadkat as the costliest Indian player in the auction. Unadkat used to do a great job for KKR in past few years and he is now a member of Indian T20 squad as well. This is also a good pick by RR.

Strengths:

Rajasthan’s batting is looking very strong as Royals have a strong batting line-up. RR has Ajinkya Rahane, Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi and looking pretty good at the top order along with steve smith. Both the English stars Buttler and Stokes provide the game-changing capability as the finisher.

RR also has a long line-up of all-rounders led by Australian Big Bash star Jofra Archer. The bench strength of RR is also looking very impressive as they have gathered underrated stars like Stuart Binny and Krishnappa Gowtham.

The pace attack is also one of the major strength of the Royals. Jaydev Undakat will definitely be an asset to the team. Kulkarni and Afghanistan’s young player Zahir Khan is also going to provide variety in the bowling for the team.

Limitations:

The spin attack is a very week point of Rajasthan’s squad. However, RR bought Gowtham, spending a huge amount but he is not an experienced player of international cricket. Apart from him, Rajasthan lacks in this department completely.

Rajasthan this time also invested in many uncapped players like their every auction in IPL. But this time RR is lacking the experience of domestic players who can understand the Indian conditions better. Other than Rahane RR depends on overseas players for the experience of the game.

Rajasthan Royals team for IPL 2018:

Chelsea to offer €136 million to Real Madrid for Marco Asensio if Eden Hazard moves the other way

0
(Julian Finney/Getty Images)

According to reports in Spain, Premier League giants Chelsea are expected to offer a staggering €136 million to Real Madrid for Spanish prodigy Marco Asensio should they fail to keep hold of Eden Hazard this summer. The Belgian superstar has been a transfer target for Los Blancos for at least the past two years, and given their pulling power and financial muscle, they usually seem to get what they want.

Since joining the Blues in 2012, Hazard has become their most important player and has, on numerous occasions, single handedly carried the team on his shoulders. While there have been the likes of Didier Drogba and Diego Costa to supplement him in the attack, their impact has not been as crucial has Hazard’s.

With a player of his calibre, transfer rumours are just waiting to be started and unfortunately for the Blues fans, the constant Real Madrid links aren’t going away. The Spanish outfit’s persistence to sign the Belgian could see the player’s mind turn a little bit, and given the Blues’ performances this season, he could considering an exit if things don’t improve.

(Gonzalo Arroyo Moreno/Getty Images)

While Madrid haven’t been doing too many miracles themselves in La Liga, the prospect of representing and being a part of the Galacticos is enough to tempt a player to jump ship and make a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. If that was to happen, Chelsea will demand a player in return.

The Blues hierarchy have reportedly set their sights on Marco Asensio and are willing to pay over the top for his services. The Spaniard has flourished under Zinedine Zidane’s tutelage, but due to the quality in their ranks, he has failed to get the adequate amount of playing time needed to take his game to the next level.

His chances of being a first-team regular will be in further jeopardy should Hazard join the club, and he would fancy a move away from Madrid, with London proving to be fascinating option.

At Chelsea, he will finally be able to get out of the shadows of the world-class players at Madrid and be the player he thinks he is and live up to his potential of being Spain’s next big thing.

South Africa vs India 3rd ODI: Proteas Again Trapped by Indian Spinners, India Won by 124 Runs

0

Cape Town. South Africa vs India 3rd ODI. South African batsmen again failed to play Indian wrist–spinners in the 3rd ODI of six-match series here at Newlands, Cape Town on Wednesday. Both the Indian spinners Yajuvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav repeated their last match performance and trapped the Proteas batsmen with their wist-spin. With this great performance of bowlers along with captain Kohli’s unbeaten century, India won by 124 runs.

No South African batsmen could stand before the bowling performance of Indian bowlers. Jaspreet Bumrah (2/32) make the way for Indian bowlers as he picked Hashim Amla (1) very early at the team score of 1 run. Anyhow captain Aiden Markram (32) and JP Duminy (51) managed to stand before Indian bowling attack. They put a solid partnership of 78 runs for a second wicket.

After the fall of Aiden Markram’s wicket, the South African batting line-up started to collapse. JP Duminy, who was looking in a good touch, also departed by Chahal (4/46) at the team score of 95. After the departure of JP Duminy, South Africa could not manage to stand against Indian bowlers and got all out at the score of 179 runs chasing Indian score of 303 runs.

Earlier, after winning the toss South African captain Aiden Markram opt to bowl first. Rohit Sharma again failed to score runs, even this time he was sent back to pavilion on a duck by Rabada, in the very first over of the match. After the early first wicket at the team score of 0, captain Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan built a solid partnership again as 2nd ODI. Both put a 140 runs partnership for the second wicket.

Shikhar Dhawan got out with an individual score of 79 runs but Virat Kohli (160*) did not stop. He played aggressively and scored 34th ODI hundred of his career and second of this ODI tournament. However, apart from Dhawan and Kohli, no Indian batsmen could score much runs against Proteas but at the end of the inning, India managed a decent score of 303 runs at the loss of 6 wickets.

India – 303/6 (50 overs)

South Africa – 179/10 (40 Overs)

IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Kolkata Knight Riders

0
Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders are one of the most celebrated teams in Indian Premier League. They have shown a lot of glamour, spark and winning capabilities so far. KKR is the winner of two IPL titles (2012 and 2013) under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir.

KKR is criticised in this IPL season as it did not retain its two IPL title winner captain Gautam Gambhir. KKR neither retained him nor used its RTM card for him in the auction. Now after the departure of Gambhir, KKR is struggling with a very big problem of leadership. Neither KKR retained its old captain nor it bought a player suitable for captaincy.

After Gambhir’s departure now Robin Uthappa is looking first in the line, keen to be the new captain of the team. KKR also bought only 19 players (which is lowest among all franchises) and this is also a major problem for them. Let’s take a look, how the KKR team looks this year with an analysis.

Also, see IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Chennai Super Kings

The Retained Players:

As every franchise team of the IPL was allowed to retain its maximum three existing players in the team. But KKR retained only two player and both are overseas. KKR retained the magical off-spinner Sunil Narine and the hard hitter Andre Russell. Both are the star players of the West Indies team and also have a wonderful IPL record.

It was very interesting that KKR did not retain their captain Gautam Gambhir. Now the captaincy issue is a major problem in the side after his departure.

RTM Card Use:

KKR used its all three RTMs in the auction. Kolkata RTM their two spinners Piyush Chawla and new young star Kuldeep Yadav. Spin department of KKR always has been its main strength and after buying these two back, KKR made this department stronger again.

The another RTM KKR used is for its wicket keeper batsmen Robin Uthappa. Uthappa has been an outstanding performer for KKR since a long time with both, bat and globs. Now as for as the new KKR squad is concerned, Robin is keen to be next captain to the side.

Also, see IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Mumbai Indians

The Smart Buys:

Since KKR had already been retained two overseas players so it could not use RTM for Chris Lynn but KKR fought for him till the end and grabbed him finally. This destructive Australian Batsman can take the game to win single-handedly. This is a very smart pick by Kolkata.

Another very smart investment by KKR is in the uncapped players. KKR bought three young stars of Indian U-19 world cup team. The pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi along with the highest run scorer for India in U-19 World Cup Shubhman Gill. KKR bought them at handsome prices and can build the future stars out of them.

Strengths:

The strength of KKR is in its bowling department and especially in the spin section. KKR have the best spin combination among all the IPL teams. Sunil Narine has been proved himself as a superstar with the ball. He can take wickets at the crucial time as well as slowdowns the score. The new spin star of Indian team Kuldeep Yadav is also there. He can bat as well when it requires. Piyush Chawla has played all 10 IPL seasons, so KKR also has a good quality spinner with experience.

The batting star Robin Uthappa and Carribean star Andre Russell will be the key of KKR’s batting line-up along with the match winner himself Chris Lynn. So the top order with Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa looks very strong again.

Limitations:

Captaincy problem is a very major issue for KKR now. KKR does not have any experienced international player in the squad who can lead the team. Perhaps KKR did not focus on this factor and let Gambhir go and did not find his replacement.

KKR made a team with only 19 players. If any 2 or 3 players got injured or 1 – 2 overseas players return to their home then it will be very difficult for KKR to replace them as the franchise has a limited bench strength.

Lack of experience is one of the biggest problems for KKR. KKR does not have any big international star in the squad and also no big experienced player is looking on its bench. The Pace attack of KKR is also looking inexperienced and weak in many respects.

South Africa vs India 3rd ODI: Visitors Will Look to Remain Unbeaten

South Africa vs India 3rd ODI
South Africa vs India 3rd ODI

Cape Town. After winning the first two test matches of India’s tour to South Africa, Proteas could not stand back on their performance. They lost the last test match and first two ODIs against the guests. Men in blue are now in a very comfortable position in the six-match ODI series. They will now look forward to extending their unbeaten 2-0 lead against the hosts in the 3rd ODI at Newlands, Cape Town on Wednesday.

South Africa is struggling with injuries and wrist spin at the moment. The injuries of their three main players, captain Faf du Plessis, start player AB de Villiers and wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock are now a major problem for them. They are also lacking a good guidance as they have only 3 matches old player Aiden Markram as their captain.

On the other hand, Indian wrist spinners Yajuvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are one of the major problems of Proteas. The hosts are struggling against them in the absence of their key batsmen. At Centurian, only these two spinners sent 8 Proteas batsmen back to the pavilion.

The batting form of star Indian opener Rohit Sharma is a major issue for India. The opening partnership has not been working for India since the test series. Rohit’s form should be a major concern for captain Kohli as 4 matches are to be played in the series.

Though the record of South Africa at the ground of Newlands in Cape Town is exceptionally good. Proteas winning percentage at this ground is 84.85%, which is highest by a test playing country at home venue. But this time the situations are not favourable for the hosts as they are suffering from many major issues.

India is ahead by 2-0 in the six-match ODI series and proceeding strongly to win their first ever ODI series at the South African soil.

When and where to watch the 3rd ODI:

The live action of 3rd ODI between South Africa and India will begin at 04:30 PM IST ( 1100 Hrs GMT) on the Sony Ten Network. However, the match can be seen online on SONY LIV APP and its website.

India ODI squad:

Olivier Giroud reveals how Antonio Conte convinced him to turn down a move elsewhere to join Chelsea

French forward Olivier Giroud has revealed that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was key in making up the player’s mind while switching clubs from Arsenal to join forces with the Italian at Stamford Bridge. Giroud had been flirting with a move away from the Emirates for the past few windows, and finally the striker was on his way out.

It was far from a static transfer window for the Gunners as there were several ins and outs. A significant out was Alexis Sanchez – who went to Manchester United in exchange for Henrikh Mkhitaryan. While the Armenian is a dynamic attacking midfielder, he does not provide a goal threat as that of the Chilean.

Thus, Wenger and the Arsenal board looked for another reinforcement and signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund. It was a tad surprising as the Gunners had only made a club-record signing to sign Alexandre Lacazette in the summer, and roping in another player to replace him six months later made little sense.

(GLYN KIRK/AFP/Getty Images)

Another player who was adversely affected by the acquisition of the Gabonese was Giroud. It seemed that the Frenchman would seep down to being third in the pecking order – something which he wasn’t willing to accept.

The Arsenal hierarchy did not stand in his way and let him leave the club after six years of service. He was also indirectly used as a sweetener in the deal that saw Arsenal sign Aubameyang, with Michy Batshuayi moving to Borussia Dortmund.

However, it is understood that Dortmund were initially hoping to sign Giroud, but instead of moving to the Bundesliga, he decided to stay put in London because of Conte’s attempts at making him a Chelsea player.

In an interview with Telefoot, Giroud said:

“I had offers from Dortmund, Sevilla and Roma. But Antonio Conte convinced me to join Chelsea.

“It made sense for me to take a new direction in my career. The coach wanted to recruit a new forward with Aubameyang. That made it three strikers at Arsenal, including me. That’s why I decided to leave.

“I spoke to Didier Deschamps about my situation. He did not tell me to join Chelsea, just to change club.”

Tottenham striker Harry Kane hits back at Virgil van Dijk’s diving allegations in Sunday’s game against Liverpool

In what proved to be one of the best games of the season, top-four rivals Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur played out an entertaining and controversial 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to open the scoring as Mohamed Salah capatalised on an error from Eric Dier to hand Liverpool the initiative in the nascent stages of the game. This gave Spurs the impetus to push forward, and after minutes of attacking football they found a way back through Victor Wanyama.

The visitors had a chance to take the lead after Harry Kane earned a penalty after being brought down by keeper Loris Karius. However, the England international failed to capatilise on the advantage and fluffed his lines. Liverpool immediately hit back at the other end, before yet another Kane penalty, this time that found its way into the back of the net, brought the game back on level terms and the contest ended in a stalemate.

(PAUL ELLIS/AFP/Getty Images)

There was plenty of controversy surrounding both penalties, but Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, who brought Erik Lamela down for the second penalty, shot out at Kane for going down too easily and accused him of diving to win his side a spot kick in a crucial stage of the contest. According to Sky Sports, the Dutchman said:

“I think it is a dive. You see him (Kane) diving clearly and no-one is talking about that. But I think it is a dive.

“There is a lot of discussion about whether it is offside, yes or no, but I think it was offside as well. I thought it was a dive. You could just see him making that dive. That is my opinion and the referee thought it was no offside and no dive and he gave a pen.”

This accusation certainly did not sit well with Kane, who scored his 100th Premier League in last night’s match against Liverpool. When asked about van Dijk’s opinion on his attempts to earn the penalty, the Englishman gave a rather stern reply.

“He (Karius) has dived, he got in the way and I’m a player, I’m not going to jump out of the way because it’s football,” said Kane. “I definitely felt contact and I went down.”

IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Chennai Super Kings

0
Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings franchise is returning to the IPL after two years suspension. CSK is the only team to win two IPL titles back to back (2010, 2011). Chennai Super Kings franchise is also one of the most successful teams of IPL as it has been the finalist in 6 IPL season out of 8 IPL they played in.

In this IPL auction, Chennai Super Kings retained their core and stuck with their old and reliable players. First CSK retained three players of the team and then used RTM for another two. CSK stuck with its old captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and team head coach Steven Fleming. Although CSK let its very reliable spinner R. Ashwin go by not using RTM for him.

Let’s take a look what CSK bought for this IPL season from the auction and what are its strengths and limitations.

Also, see IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Mumbai Indians

The Retained Players:

As every franchise team of the IPL was allowed to retain its maximum three existing players in the team. So CSK retained their most reliable three players captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Batsmen Suresh Raina and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

All these three players have been the core structure of CSK for a long time. CSK retained these players wisely, especially keeping Dhoni-Raina combination in the team that has been the main asset of the franchise in all 8 IPL tournaments.

RTM Card Use:

CSK used its first RTM to call Faf du Plessis back in the squad. He has been a good player for CSK in the middle order as well as in the opening. The second RTM card is used by CSK for DJ Bravo. Bravo is one of the most successful players in the IPL tournament and the all-rounder brings a spark in the team with his presence. It’s a big decision to not using RTM for R Ashwin who also has been a core member of the team.

The Smart Buys:

Lungi Ngidi is a very smart pick by Chennai Super Kings as they only spent ₹ 50 lakhs for him and got a genuine pacer in the team. CSK used to pick genuine fast bowler earlier as well such as Ben Hilfenhaus and Doug Bollinger. So the franchise stuck with this plan this year as well.

Deepak Chahar (₹ 80 lakhs) is also a very smart buy by CSK. He has been doing an exceptional job for Rajasthan in domestic cricket.

CSK also picked Harbhajan Singh and Karan Sharma and made their spin department experienced as well as dynamic.

Strengths:

The main advantage for CSK is that they retained their core of the team and also got their captain back in the house. The spin bowling department is looking very good with the presence of veteran Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir even they lost R Ashwin. The all-rounder department is also pretty much stronger by having Shane Watson, DJ Bravo, Kedar Jadhav and Ravindra Jadeja in the squad.

Murli Vijay has been always wonderful for CSK at the top of the batting and Suresh Raina at number three. Their skipper M S Dhoni is one of the world’s best finisher in limited overs cricket. The English wicket-keeper Batsman Sam Billings is also looking an asset to the team.

The Mumbai Indians trio Harbhajan Singh, Ambati Rayudu and Karan Sharma will definitely bring the spark in the team as they used to play together for a long time on the champion side.

Limitations:

The spin department is very balanced for CSK but fast bowling department looks a bit weak. However, they picked Ngidi, but he is young and doesn’t have any experience playing in India. They don’t have any strong international or known genuine fast bowler whom you can look for wickets in difficult conditions. CSK should have gone for a regular Pacer.

The opening combination is also not looking pretty good. However, Murli Vijay used to open for CSK but apart from him, no good regular opening batsman is there in the squad. CSK could use RTM for Brandon McCullum but it does not use. It’s going to be very interesting to see that how they will use their line-up in the opening, according to a CSK trend.

IPL 2018 Current Team Roster Analysis: Mumbai Indians

0

Mumbai Indians have proved themselves a champion side in the Indian premier league. They are the defending champions of IPL title this year as well as the winner of three IPL tournaments (2013, 2015, 2017), which is more than any other franchise team of IPL. Mumbai always showed their class in the game of cricket when it comes to big stages.

The star players of Mumbai Indians squad used to play key roles in their victories and the combination of captain Rohit Sharma and coach Mahela Jayawardene has performed exceptionally well. Now the auctions for IPL 2018 have been completed and Mumbai also got a chance for grabbing new star players on the team like other franchise.

However, Mumbai loses Harbhajan Singh and Lasith Malinga for the 11th season of IPL. Both these players have been a key part of Mumbai’s squad for all ten seasons of the IPL. But instead of that Mumbai Indians bought many good players in the auction and made some good deals.

Here is the team analysis of Mumbai Indians’ new team for IPL 2018. Let’s see what Mumbai Bought to their side from the IPL auctions this year.

The Retained Players:

Every franchise team of the IPL was allowed to retain its maximum three existing players in the team. Mumbai Indians chose their captain Rohit Sharma, who led Mumbai to win the IPL thrice, along with one of the best all-rounders of India Hardik Pandya and the ICC World number one T20 bowler Jaspreet Bumrah.

All three of them are the permanent members of Indian Cricket Team, even of the playing eleven. So this was the very smart move from Mumbai to retain all three regular and performing domestic players in the team. These players are also the core of the team in batting, bowling and all-rounder departments.

RTM card use:

Mumbai Indians used their Right to Match card very wisely. They used first RTM card to retain the very reliable and valuable player of their squad Kieron Pollard and bought him at the high price of ₹ 5.4 crores. The second RTM card used by Mumbai for the new star of their team Krunal Pandya. Mumbai would not have been hoping for this high price bid on him of ₹ 8.8 crores, but after all, they used their RTM for him.

The Smart Buys:

Mumbai Indians picked Australian All-rounder Ben cutting (₹ 2.2 crores) and South African Batsman JP Duminy (₹ 1 crores) in the auction. Both the pickings are very clever by Mumbai because both are very good player of limited over cricket and for buying them Mumbai didn’t spend a lot of money. MI also bought the young and aggressive West Indies player Evin Lewis with a high bid of ₹ 3.8 crores. Mumbai also grabbed the destructive bowler of Australia Pat Cummins by offering a big amount of ₹ 5.4 crores and the IPL star Mustafizur Rahman by offering ₹ 2.2 crores.

MI invested in three very talented domestic players. They bought wicket-keeper batsmen Ishan Kishan (₹ 6.2 crores), middle-order batsman Suryakant Yadav (₹ 3.2 crores) and pacer Pradeep Sanghwan (₹ 1.5 crores). All these three players have performed exceptionally well in previous seasons of IPL.

Strengths:

As taking a look at the new squad of Mumbai Indians, the all-rounders will be the key for Mumbai in the upcoming IPL 2018. Having both the Pandya brothers, Keiron Pollard and Ben Cuttings long with domestic players like Akila Dhananjaya and Tajinder Dhillon, Mumbai Indians are looking most effective and strong among all the franchise teams in IPL this year.

Mumbai Indians used to play with two overseas fast bowlers along with Indian bowlers, they picked Mustafizur Rahman and Pat Cummins along with Jason Behrendorff (₹ 1.5 crores) in place of Malinga, Johnson and McLagan. So bowling department also looks solid for MI as Jaspreet Bumrah is going to lead the bowling.

However, MI let Josh Buttler and Landon Simons go as their top order batting option, But they picked the young hard hitter Evin Lewis instead of that. The team full of star batsmen like Rohit Sharma, JP Duminy, Suryakumar Yadav, Sourabh Tiwari and Ishan Kishan looks a strong in the batting department as well.

Limitations:

Approx in every season, Mumbai Indians always struggled with their opening combinations. This new line-up of Mumbai Indias also does not show a proper view of a particular regular opener in the squad. However, MI have the world’s best opening batsman in limited overs cricket as Rohit Sharma, but he always prefered to play as a middle order player in the IPL. It will be very interesting to see that how Mumbai Indians will manage in the opening department.

Mumbai has picked very good quality fast bowlers but the spin department is now looking a bit inexperienced this time as they don’t have any big international and experienced spinner in the team. However, MI signed Sri Lankan Akila Dhananjaya but he is an all-rounder basically and his place in the playing eleven is even not certain.

South Africa vs India 2nd ODI: Chahal rocked the ground, India won by 9 wickets

0

Centurion. South Africa vs India 2nd ODI. With the help of Yajuvendra Chahal’s brilliant 5-wicket hall and Kuldeep Yadav’s tight bowling performances, India first managed to restrict South Africa at a very low score of 118 runs and then with the solid batting performances by Shikhar Dhawan and captain Virat Kohli India comfortably won the second game at Supersports Park, Centurion.

Now India is ahead of the hosts by 2-0 in the six-match ODI series, after winning the second match of the series. India showed its class in both the batting and bowling departments and did not provide a single chance to South Africa to bounce back in the match.

Earlier, after winning the toss India chose to bowl first. India was looking to take benefits of the absence of the South African star player AB de Villiers and the captain Faf du Plessis. Pitch reports were also showing the average score of 250 runs and the lack of pace on the pitch. So India prefered to chase the run score provided by South Africa.

According to pitch conditions, India came with two regular spinners and two pacers. Initially, South Africa got a good start but after the fall of their first wicket as Hashim Amla (23) in the 10th over of the match they started to collapse. No batsmen of the South African squad could surpass 30 runs margin and hence Proteas could manage only 118 runs in 32.2 overs and got all out.

Although No Indian bowler allowed the Proteas batsmen to open their arms. Especially the spin department did the damage. Yajuvendra Chahal (5/22) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/20) never allowed the hosts to step up and score runs. The Indian spinners maintained the pressure on the South African batsmen from both the ends.

However, Indian bowlers performed exceptionally well but no South African bowler could leave his mark on the pitch in the second inning of the match. India also lost their first wicket as Rohit Sharma (15) at a very low team score of 26 runs, but after the fall of the first wicket, India never gave a single chance to the hosts to grip the match.

Shikhar Dhawan (51*) and captain Kohli (46*) put a partnership of 93 runs together for the second wicket and returned unbeaten. Hence India succeeded its second victory in the series and lead the series by 2-0.

Summary of the first inning:

South Africa – 118/10 (32.2 overs)

JP Duminy  – 25 (39)

Yajuvendra Chahal – 5/22

South Africa vs India 2nd ODI: India will look to continue the winning momentum at Centurion

Centurian. The second one day international of six-match ODI series will be played at Super Sports Park, Centurion on Sunday. India is leading the ODI series by 1-0 as men in blue won the first match of the series comfortably. Now India will look to continue the winning momentum and will try to extend their lead in the series.

After winning the last test and first ODI, India is looking at the totally balanced flow. Bowlers of Indian team used to perform well throughout the series now batsmen also joined them by finding their rhythm.

However, India won the first ODI but Indian opening Batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan did not look in good form. Rohit has been struggling to score runs since the test series. Shikhar just joined the team for ODIs in South Africa. They both now need to focus on their forms as well as their understandings.

Proteas star player AB de Villiers is already out of first three ODIs and now their captain and the century scorer of the first match Faf du Plessis is also out from the whole series due to his finger injury. The captaincy is now on the shoulders of very less experienced Aiden Markram.

It’s shocking that 23 years old and only 2 matches old player is named as captain. Although Markram said that “It’s a big honour. The selectors showing confidence in me to take over, it means quite a bit. It’s a super humbling experience, but yes, we’re going to need to do this for Faf, I believe,”

“I think it’s something that you can’t take for granted. I really enjoy captaining but it’s an unexpected thing. Like I said it was a freak incident with Faf and this has all just happened so quickly,” the young player said.

South Africa is struggling to maintain balance in the middle order and now after injury of their captain Faf du Plessis, this is going to be much harder for them. However, De Villiers will be available from the fourth match of the series. He was ruled out for first three matches after having an injury in last test match. But Proteas need to maintain balance in the squad until his return.

South Africa is number one in ICC ODI ranking and now when du Plessis is gone, the responsibility to protect their first place crown lies on the experienced players of the team like Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy and David Miller.

Mount Maunganui. India lifted the under-19 world cup trophy for the fourth time, more than any other nation in the history of ICC Under-19 World Cup. India defeated Australia by 8 wickets, here at the ground of Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Saturday.

Manjot Karla’s unbeaten century led India to win the “World Champion Crown” for the fourth time. India always seemed comfortable while chasing the Australian score of 216 runs. However, India started with a solid 50 runs opening partnership, but the most successful batsmen of the squad in the tournament for India Prithvi Shaw (29) and Shubman Gill (31) departed early.

After the early departure of both the highest scorers, Manjot Kalra (101*) and Harvik Desai (47*) held the crease and came back unbeaten. Karla hit 3 sixes and 8 boundaries to complete his century in the final. The young Indian squad paid the tribute to their coach and the former Indian captain Rahul Dravid and gave him the most successful moment of his coaching career.

Earlier, Australia chose to bat first after winning the toss. Australia’s opening pair Jack Edwards (28) and Max Bryant (14) could not stand on the crease for long against the Indian bowling attack. Australia lost their first 3 wickets at the score of 59 runs. After that Jonathon Merlo (76) held one end and put two solid partnerships of 75 and 49 runs with Param Uppal (34) and Nathan Mcsweeney (23), respectively. Anyhow Australia managed to get a decent target of 215 runs.

No Indian Bowler allowed Australian Batsmen to open their arms and the entire Australian team got all out within 47.2 over. For India, Ishan Porel, Shiva Singh, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Ankur Roy picked up 2 wickets each. Shivam Mavi also picked a wicket in the match.

India now surpassed Australia by lifting Under-19 World Cup for the fourth time. Prithvi Shaw added his name with the glory along with Mohammad Kaif (2000), Virat Kohli (2008) and Unmukt Chand (2012) by making India World Champion again, for the fourth time.

All the batsmen are contributing well and that is the reason India has won two matches by 10 wickets in the tournament so far.

The pace attack of Indian Under-19 team has been a key factor in Indian victories. Durban. Yet another ODI century from the Indian run machine Virat Kohli led India to win the first One Day International of six-match series. Indian skipper scored his century number 33 here at Kingsmead, in today’s match. With the valuable knock of Ajinkya Rahane along with the captain, India won by 6 wickets.

Indian Inning didn’t get a good start as the Indian openers Rohit Sharma (20) and Shikhar Dhawan (35) were sent to the pavilion early at the team score of 67 runs. After that, captain Kohli (112) and Ajinkya Rahane (79) led the team to the victory by putting a solid partnership of 189 runs for the third wicket.

However, Morne Morkel (1/37) picked the wicket of Rohit Sharma at the team score of 33 runs and Shikhar Dhawan got run out at the team score of 67, but the South African bowlers could not maintain the pressure after these two early wickets.

Earlier South Africa chose to bat first after winning the toss at Kingsmead. But Proteas top order failed to provide a solid start to the team. Their openers Hashim Amla (16) and Quinton de Kock (34) departed early. After that, captain Faf du Plessis held one end, till the very last over of the match and completed his 9th century in ODIs by scoring 120 runs with the help of 11 boundaries and 2 sixes.

The South African middle order also could not support their captain. The complete damage was done by both the Indian spinners Kuldeep Yadav (3/34) and Yajuvendra Chahal (2/45), as they did not allow the South African middle order batsmen to settle and kept building pressure by taking wickets after regular intervals. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah also took 1 wicket each.

At the end of the inning, the lower order somehow supported the captain and took South Africa to a decent total. At the end of the inning, South Africa managed 269 runs after losing 8 wickets in 50 overs. Chris Morris (37) and Andile Phehlukwayo (27) played a valuable knock at the end of the Proteas inning.

Summary of the first inning:

South Africa – 269/8 (50 overs).

Faf du Plessis – 120 (112).

Kuldeep Yadav – 3/34.

Summary of the second Inning:

India –  270/4.

Virat Kohli – 112 (119).

Andile Phehlukwayo – 2/42.

South Africa VS India ODI series: After losing test series by 2-1 against the hosts, India will try to start the ODI series with a win by leaving all odds behind. The very first match of six-match ODI series will be played at Kingsmead, Durban on Thursday.

However, India lost the test series to South Africa, but the win by 63 runs in the last test match at Wanderers, showed the spirit of winning in the Indian squad. Virat and company, now need to learn from the odds and overcome them.

The return of former Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the Indian One Day International squad will definitely boost the confidence in the Indian Team. He is the most experienced player in the team as well as he is also one of the world’s best match finishers of limited over cricket.

Since only 14 months are left for Cricket Wolrd Cup 2019, now team India also has to test their bench strength in the ODIs and need to find the right combination for the playing squad.

Indian record in One Day Internationals on South African soil is not very good. India has played 28 ODI matches in South Africa but has won only 5 of them and lost 21. India has not won a single match out of 7 at Durban as well. So, Men in Blue will be looking to win their first ODI series ever, against the Proteas in South Africa.

This series is also important regarding the ODI rankings. South Africa with 120 points and India with 119 points are at No.1 and No. 2 spot respectively in the current ICC ODI Man’s team ranking. If team India succeeds in winning the series by 4-2, India will replace South Africa as world No. 1 in ODI ranking. However, change in the team’s rankings can be seen as per every match.

When and Where to watch South Africa VS India First ODI?

The live action of 1st ODI between South Africa and India will begin on February 1 at 04:30 PM IST (1100 Hrs. GMT) on the Sony Ten Network. However, the toss will take place at 04:00 PM IST (1030 Hrs. GMT).

Johannesburg. Aiden Markram (4) lost his wicket to Mohammad Shami at the team score of 5, and South Africa got off to a terrible start. When the play called off, South Africa were 17/1 in pursuit of 241 on the third day of the third test match at Johannesburg.

Dean Elgar was tested on the short ball by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, but due to uneven bounce, he took a nasty blow on the helmet. After observing the poor pitch behaviour and weather conditions, match officials called off the play early.

This took a quite long discussion with both coaches and captains. The pitch is still under questions for its awkward behaviour.

When the play called off, Dean Elgar (11) and Hashim Amla (2) were on the crease. Both the batsmen were looking quite in the struggle against the Indian seamers.

Earlier India showed a good spirit in batting and gave South Africa a 241 run target after the second inning of the third test match here at Wanderers. Murli Vijay and Virat Kohli leads India ahead and tried to add runs on the scoreboard. But, at the stroke of lunch, Rabada sent Murli Vijay (25) back to the pavilion.

After Lunch Virat Kohli (41) and Ajinkya Rahane (48) showed good class. They scored runs and extended India’s lead. Meanwhile, Rabada again struck and sent Kohli back to the dressing room. The failure in the first inning of Hardik Pandya (4), continued in the second inning as well.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (33) put a strong partnership of 55-runs with Ajinkya Rahane, but post tea India lost Ajinkya Rahane as well when Morkel took his wicket. However, Mohammad Shami (27) also played a crucial knock at the end. With all these small but valuable contributions, India managed to set a defendable target of 241 against the host.

For South Africa, Morne Morkel, Vernon Philander and Kagiso Rabada took three wickets each in the second inning. Lungi Ngidi the man of the match of the Centurion test, could get a single wicket only.

IPL auction 2018
IPL auction 2018

Bengaluru. IPL auction 2018; platform is now all set. The bidding of world’s biggest cricket event will start from tomorrow. The players of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be auctioned over this weekend, January 27–28, in Bengaluru. The event is likely to start at 9 am from tomorrow.

A total number of 1122 players have registered for the 11th season of IPL this year. This number is highest in the history of IPL. The list of cricketers who made the registration has been sent to all eight franchise teams. The auction will feature 578 players this weekend, in all with 361 of them are Indian.

Fever of next season of the IPL is already all over the places. Especially the enthusiasm of the fans has increased after the return of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals to the IPL.

Significantly, the most foreign players in the IPL 11 auction are from Australia and South Africa. This time England captain Joe Root is also running for the first time in the IPL auction.

Batsman Gautam Gambhir, all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, veteran Harbhajan Singh and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin are also included in the list of the auction. Due to the restriction of WADA star player, Yusuf Pathan’s case is still pending in the auction.

West Indian Chris Gayle, Ben Stokes, Chris Lynn, Mitchell Starc, Dwayne Bravo and Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga are also included in the list of the auction. Apart from Ajinkya Rahane, Lokesh Rahul, Murali Vijay and Kuldeep Yadav, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell, all-rounder Shane Watson and Mitchell Johnson are also on the list.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, retained their 3 players each. While Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders retained their 2 players each. And only 1 player was retained by Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals to their respective teams.

It is noticeable that Gautam Gambhir, who has made Kolkata Knight Riders champion in his captaincy twice, has not been retained by his franchise team.

Rules for Retaining Players:

If a franchise decides to retain their three players, then Rs. 33 crores will be deducted from their budget of Rs. 80 crores. The first player who got retained will get Rs 15 crore, the second player will get Rs 11 crore and 7 crore rupees will be given to the third retained player.

MI, DD, CSK and RCB belongs to this category. Now they have a balance of Rs. 47 crores in their respective accounts for bidding.

If a franchisee chooses to retain only two players, then a total of Rs. 21 crores will be deducted from their budget. The first player who got retained will get Rs 12.5 crore and the other player will receive Rs 8.5 crore.

Therefore, the team which retains only two players will be able to enter the auction with an amount of Rs. 59 crores. KKR and SRH now belong to this category.

If a franchisee chooses to retain only one player, then his total budget of Rs 80 crores will be cut by 12.5 crores. This amount will be paid to the retained player.

Therefore, the team which retains only one player will go with the amount of Rs 67.5 crore in the auction. RR and KXIP now belong to this category.

This is noticeable that, it is not necessary that the amount is deducted from franchise’s balance for retaining players, will be paid to the retained players exactly. It depends on Franchise that, how much they pay to the players.

Right to Match Card System:

Right-to-match card gives the respective franchise the opportunity to buy back its player during the auction, by matching the highest bid made for the player by another franchise.

The teams who have decided to retain one or two players can use 3 right to match cards during the auction. At the same time, the teams who retained three players will be able to use this card for only 2 times during the auction.

Johannesburg. 21 year old, young seamer Lungisani Ngidi has been named in India vs South Africa ODI squad for six-match series, starting from February 1 in Durban. The pacer has been rewarded for his recent man of the match performance in his test debut against India in Centurion, where he returned with 7 wickets for 90 runs.

He missed the ODI series against Shri Lanka after playing T20 internationals due to injury last year. He also missed the ODI call-up previously, because of the same.

“Lungi has achieved a remarkable double in being named man of the match on both his T20 and test match debuts and he now gets the chance to show what he can do in the 50 overs format,” Linda Zondi, the selection panel convener states about Ngidi.

He also added, “This is a continuation of vision 2019 as we develop our squad for the 2019 ICC World Cup in England.”

All-rounder Chris Morris and Fast bowler Morne Morkel return after missing ODI series against Bangladesh, last year in October because of their injuries.

“It is good to have both Morne and Chris back in the squad as the 2019 World Cup is little more than a year away now,” Zondi concluded his statement.

Batsman and wicket-keeper Khayelihle Zondo has also been selected in the squad. He recently led the South Africa A team against England Lions in their campaign of fifty overs. When South Africa toured India in 2015, he was in the lineup, but unfortunately could not make a single game.

Apart from Imran Tahir, the chinaman leg-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has also been included in the squad surprisingly.

All the situations have been favourable for Proteas against the guest, for so long. South Africa have already won the test series by 2-0, while the third test match is still in the play.

India VS South Africa: The final test of India to save Honor

Johannesburg. The battle field is all set for 3rd test match clash of India vs South Africa test series. India will be definitely looking forward to win this test to save its honor as world’s No. 1 test team. Leaving behind all bitter memories of last two matches, Virat Kohli’s Team, who has lost this Test series against South Africa, now has the challenge to save its reputation.

Wanderers has always been wonderful for India:

The third Test of India vs South Africa will be played on Wednesday (January 24) at Wanderers ground in Johannesburg. This field is quite lucky for India. India never suffered a test here. India has played 4 Tests here, in which one win, while three draws. Team India will look after to continue its good record here at Wanderers, while the host will be looking to improve their record here.

Changes in Indian Team line up are certain:

Team India is still looking for the right combination at the moment. Its bowlers are performing well and in both the tests they put down all 20 wickets of the opposition team but, still there is some space to be filled. Jasprit Bumrah, who shocked everyone making place in the team squad in both Tests, will be out this time. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will occupy his place in team, who was surprisingly out of last two matches.

The main problem is that the Indian batsmen are not able to perform according to the expectations and their reputation. Only Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya are looking good so far, as far as batting department is concerned. Rohit Sharma could have scored only 78 runs so far in the series but, still his chance to sit on bench is very limited.

Ajinkya Rahane is constantly practicing on the net since team’s arrival here. So it seems he is going to make his place in final eleven for the last test. Dinesh Karthik could also replace Parthiv Patel as wicket keeper.

Effect on India’s No. 1 Ranking:

If South Africa succeeded to win the last test match as well then also India will be ranked No.1 in Test ranking but, not that firmly. However both the teams will be equalized by 118 points then but, South Africa will be ranked below India, when the points are calculated beyond the decimal point. So in upcoming series it will be difficult for India to maintain it’s No. 1 spot in Test ranking.

Manchester United poised to complete £22 million move for wantaway PSG winger Lucas Moura

Manchester United are looking to sign a long-term option on the right wing and have reportedly turned their attention to Paris St. Germain attacker Lucas Moura. The Daily Mirror have linked the Brazilian with a move to Old Trafford in January and the Ligue 1 side are holding out for £22 million in order to part ways with the player.

Moura was a hot property in the transfer market back in 2012. He had set the world alight with his performances for Sao Paulo, and was a target for numerous top European clubs. Manchester United too, were among the names that were interested in signing the starlet, but due to his agent’s enormous fees, the Red Devils pulled out of the move – paving the way for PSG to complete a £38 million move.

However, since then the Parisiens have secured the services of a number of quality attacking players, leaving Moura wilting on the sidelines. In fact, the Brazilian has played a paltry 72 minutes of league football this term, and has been hinting at an exit ever since his compatriot Neymar walked through the door in the summer for a world-record fee.

If reports in England are to be believed, United are willing to respond to his “come and get me” plea and are prepared to commence negotiations with the Ligue 1 outfit for his sale in January. It is understood that PSG value the player at £22 million and are open to parting ways with him.

While Moura might not be the ideal long-term option for the Red Devils, he can certainly be of great help to them until the end of the season. United do not possess a quality out-and-out winger in their ranks, and Moura could fit the bill for the club. He is pacey and a clever dribbler, and more importantly he is an immediate upgrade on the likes of Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

A move to United could see the 25-year-old regain his spot in the national squad. He has been somewhat on the periphery of the Brazil setup, having made just three caps in the last four years. At Old Trafford, the Brazilian will play week in and week out – which could see him make a good case for being included in the World Cup squad later this year.
