Manchester United could face punishment from the FA and Premier League after yesterday’s fans’ protest. Officials were forced to postpone the match against Liverpool for safety reasons as fans protested outside Old Trafford and eventually made their way inside the stadium.
According to a report by Daily Mirror, the investigation is currently going on to know the details. If Manchester United is at fault for the game not happening, then as per the FA’s rulebook in section 8.3.4, Liverpool will be awarded the result and three points.
The rule read, ‘In the event of a match being abandoned due to the conduct of one Club or its members or supporters the Board has the power to order that the match is not replayed and to award either one or three points to the Club, not at fault.’
‘It cannot levy a financial penalty due to the conduct of a Club.’
However, as per the Premier League rules, a club cannot be held to blame if the police are involved in the decision to postpone, which was the case on Sunday. This is a sigh of relief for Manchester United team management.
