Chelsea linked with a shock managerial swoop for Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino

According to a report by Sky Sports, Chelsea are shockingly linked with a move for rivals Tottenham Hotspur’s manager Mauricio Pochettino amid doubts over Antonio Conte’s future at the club. The Italian has been constantly linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge this season and could be shown the door after the FA Cup final.

It seems unlikely Pochettino will consider moving to a rival club, given how extensively he’s spoken against the idea when he was asked about the possibility of managing Barcelona. Before moving to England, the Argentine was at the helm at Espanyol – the local rivals of the Catalan Giants.

However, Pochettino could still leave the London side this summer should he feel that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has stopped seeing eye to eye with him. Up until now, the duo seem to have a cordial and healthy working relationship, but it is understood that the Argentine is frustrated by the lack of funds he has at his disposal.

It seems pretty clear that Pochettino is an ambitious manager who wants to end his trophy drought. Spurs may have shown progress every season under his tutelage on both domestic and European fronts, but are still well short of competing neck and neck from the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

Levy would be foolish to turn down the Argentine’s demands as the manager has been nothing but patient in building a project at the White Hart Lane. It seems that the time to take the club to the next level is right now given the squad they possess and also the fact that they will move into a new stadium next season.

Spurs left-back Danny Rose, who has been linked with a move away from the club, also shares the manager’s opinion that the funds must be given him in order to address certain areas that could see them become a real force in Europe.

The North London club are currently going toe to toe with some of the continent’s elite, but are falling just short of the finish line and spending big could make that change. Unless that does not happen, Chelsea have very little chances of luring him away from their London rivals.
