Sergio Aguero is set to leave Manchester City at the end of the season after 10 years. The club has announced the departure of the Argentine in their statement yesterday. The statement reads, ‘Manchester City will bid a fond and emotional farewell to legendary striker Sergio Agüero when his contract expires this summer.’
It is an emotional moment for all the Manchester City fans and their members since the announcement. Sergio Aguero is a legend of the club. In his 384 appearances for the club, he has scored 257 goals. He is the highest goal-scorer in the club’s history.
Out of 257, 181 has come in the Premier League. Only Alan Shearer (260), Wayne Rooney (208), and Andy Cole (187) have the better tally than the Argentine.
Aguero has won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, five League Cups, and three Community Shields with Manchester City in the last 10 years. That last-minute goal against QPR on the final day of the 2011-12 campaign to seal the title over the rivals Manchester United is still in the memory of all the football fans.
The owner of Manchester City, Khaldoon Al Mubarak said, “Sergio’s contribution to Manchester City over the last 10 years cannot be overstated. His legend will be indelibly etched into the memories of everyone who loves the Club and maybe even in those who simply love football.”
“This is not yet the moment for farewell words and speeches. There is still much to achieve in the remainder of the time we have with Sergio, and we look forward to his contributions to the challenges which lay ahead.”
“In the meantime, it gives me great pleasure to announce that we will be commissioning an artist to create a statue of Sergio to live at the Etihad Stadium alongside the ones under construction for Vincent and David. And we look forward to the opportunity to bid Sergio a fitting farewell at the end of the season.”
It is reported that Sergio Aguero will be honored with a statue outside the Etihad Stadium alongside statues currently in progress for Vincent Kompany and David Silva.
