In the singles at the ATP Hall of Fame Open Tournaments, India’s Rajkumar Ramanathan made it to the final for the first time. The player made it to the final of the ATP tournament for the first time. In the semi-finals of the tournament, he defeated US Tim Smyczek 7-5, 6-4.
Earlier, Somdev Devvarman had played the ATP Final 20 years ago. In 1998, he defeated Marin Cilic in the semi-finals and qualified for the final and also won the title.
Ramanathan is on 161 position in ATP World ranking. He will now face the third seed of the tournament Steve Johnson of America on Sunday.
Indian Challenge in Doubles Ends in Semi-finals
In the doubles, Divij Sharan and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan along with their partners, lost their respective semi-finals. With this losing cause of both of them, ended the challenge of India in the doubles of the tournament.
In the tournament, the strong contender of the title and second seed pair of Divij and his partner Jackson Withrow was defeated by the pair of Jonathan Erlich and Artem Sitak 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets. The duo couldn’t get any break from the opposition team and in the end they lost the match without fighting.
Apart from this, the pair of Jeevan and Austin Krajisak had to face defeat as well. Marcelo Arevalo and Miguel Angel Reyes defeated the pair. Although Jeevan and Austin fought till the end, but they had to face defeat 7-5, 5-7, 11-13.
This tournament was not as good for India as before, India’s star player Leander Paes had also lost the match with his partner Jamie Seretani.
