Hall of Fame Open: Ramkumar Swaminathan qualifies for Semi-finals, Paes out

Hall of Fame Open. Ramkumar Ramanathan of India defeated Canada’s Vasek Pospisil in the straight sets to enter the ATP semi-finals for the first time while Leander Paes, who lost in the doubles quarter-finals, got out of the New Port Hall of Fame Open Grass Court tournament.

23-year-old Ramanathan of Chennai, defeated V. Pospisil 7-5, 6-2 in an hour and 18 minutes. Defeating Pospisil in the match here in New Port Hall of Fame Open Grass Court tournament he won the quarter-finals.

Ramanathan will face Tim Smyczek of America in the semi-finals. Ramanathan, who defeated world’s eighth ranked player Dominic Theim of Australia last year, scored five aces and scored three break points.

It’s noteworthy that R. Ramanathan has a 115 ATP singles ranking as his highest world ranking of all time.

Divij Sharan and his partner Jackson Withrow beat Matthew Ebden of Australia and Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine 7-6, 6-3. Now they will be from New Zealand’s Artem and Israel’s Jonathan Erlich. Artem and Jonathan beat Indian Poorav Raja and Ken Skupski of Britain 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

End of Leander Paes’ Journey:

Paes and his American partner Jamie cerretani was defeated by A. Krajicek and J. Nedunchezhiyan 6-3, 7-6 to give a way out. Nedunchezhiyan and Austin will now face fourth seeded pair of Marcelo Arevalo of Spain and Miguel Angel Reyes Varela of Mexico.
