Roger Federer to lose World No. 1 position:

This loss means that Roger Federer will lose his top spot in the ATP rankings to arch-rival Rafael Nadal. Had he won this final it would have been his 10th Halle Open just ahead of Wimbledon 2018.

It would have also meant his 99th career title but the 36-year-old lost and dejected his fans after he lost to Borna Coric. The Wimbledon 2018 will begin from July 2. It would have been his second successive title win on the grass on his way to Wimbledon 2018. He won the Mercedes Cup last week only.

Federer missed out an entire season of clay court and also did not participate in the French Open. He would be disappointed to not being able to carry a winning impetus into the Wimbledon. Federer also holds the world record for most Wimbledon titles of men’s singles.

This is Borna Coric’s second win over a top 10 player in this week. Before defeating Roger Federer in the finals of the Halle Championship he knocked out Alexander Zverev of Germany. This is his second ATP title.
