Italian Open: Rafael Nadal won his 8th Trophy, Svitolina Defends her Title

World No. 2 and top-seeded Rafael Nadal won the Italian Open beating World NO. 3 and second-seeded Alexander Zverev 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 in the finals, Today. The Spanish star grabbed his eighth trophy with this win and named 32nd  Masters title.

31-year-old Nadal could not get a comfortable win against the defending champion A. Zverev. 21-year-old Zverev had come here with his 13 win streak which also includes Madrid Open Trophy. At Last, Nadal proceeded to win the title and had now won all 5 matches in 5 meetings with the other clay champion for Germany.

The rain hit play on Sunday had many up and downs in the game. Talking about that Nadal said “The rain break was so important, I didn’t think it would help me but it did. I was able to come back out with clear ideas, I’m very happy.”

“To win Rome eight times is amazing, it’s hard to describe. To have the chance to win here again is so great.”

“As for Roland Garros, I’m going to enjoy this victory and think about Paris in a few days.” He added about his next French Open Tour.

With this win, Nadal ensures his return to the Top Spot in ATP Rankings. Nadal had lost his top spot in ATP Rankings to Swiss star Roger Federer last week after losing the match in quarterfinals against Austrian player Dominic Thiem in Madrid Open.

Women Title:

Ukraine’s tennis player Elina Svitolina defended her title in the final of the Italian Open by defeating top seed Simona Halep in straight sets today.

In the tournament, fourth-seeded defending champion Svitolina beat Romanian player 6-0, 6-4 in a one-sided match. Even last year, Svitolina defeated Halep to name the title. This year, World No. 4 Svitolina has defended her third title. Earlier, she had defended the titles in Baku and Dubai.
