It’s difficult to remain on No.1 spot in ATP Rankings at the end of the year: Nadal

Legendary Spanish Player Rafael Nadal will be playing next week at the Madrid Open. After winning the 11th Barcelona Cup last week he is standing firm at No.1 spot in ATP Rankings. However, he is not very hopeful to stand there for long.

He said that due to injuries at the beginning of the season, he does not think he will be able to finish the year with the top place in the ATP rankings. In an interview given to a news agency, Nadal said these things somewhere.

The current world number-1 Nadal said, “I lost three months due to injuries. Do not play for three months and then end of the year in the first place, I think that’s impossible.”

Nadal had to leave the quarter-final match played against Marin Cilic of Croatia in the ATP World Tour Finals in early January this year. Rafael Nadal left the match in the 5th set.

Nadal has taken a slight lead from Roger Federer of Switzerland, his most competitive opponent in the ATP World Rankings. Federer is now on second place in ATP Rankings. Nadal has done a great job at the Clay Court recently. He is called the master of clay and he also recently won the Barcelona Open title for the 11th time.

He said, “After the start of the season with injuries, I am very happy with the way things are happening now. At Davis Cup, Monte Carlo and Barcelona Open, I could have been as good as myself. ‘

Nadal has been on No.1 spot in ATP Rankings for almost 167 weeks, in his entire career. Now he has 8770 points in ATP ranking and his nearest opponent i.e Roger Federer has 8670 points.
