Madrid Open: Defending Champion Simona Halep Lost Her Match, World No. 3 Muguruza is also out

World No. 1 and Defending Champion Simona Halep lost her first ever match in last three years of Madrid Open on Thursday. Karolina Pliskova defeated Halep with her inspiring performance. With this win, she reached to the Semifinals of the Madrid Open 2018.

Halep has won the Madrid Open in 2016 and 2017. But her baseline game could not stand before the power of Pliskova. Pliskova won the game 6-4, 6-3.

Spanish star tennis player Gerbine Muguruza also lost her match in the second round of the Madrid Open. Due to this defeat world, number-3 Muguruza missed the chance of becoming the first Spanish female player to win the Madrid Open. Muguruza was showed the way out by Russian Darya Kasatkina 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

In the Third Round, Maria Sharapova won her match by beating Kristina Mladenovic 6-3, 6-4.

Earlier the 12-time Grand Slam champion Serbian star Novak Djokovic has dropped out of the Madrid Open. In the first round of men’s singles, Djokovic was defeated by Britain’s Kyle Edmund 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, and showed the way out. Prior to this, Djokovic, who won every set against Edmund, returned with a win in the second set but he could not get full control on the 23-year-old British player.
