Madrid Open: Petra Kvitova Won the Title for the Third Time

Petra Kvitova Won. The star player Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic captured the Madrid Open title for the record third time. Kvitova has become the first woman player to win Madrid open thrice. World No. 10 Kvitova defeated Kiki Bertens of Netherlands in the women singles final.

Kvitova won the title after defeating Bertens 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 6-3 in a marathon match for two hours and 52 minutes. Kvitova had earlier named Madrid’s Open Tennis Tournament in 2011 and 2015.

Petra was playing her 11th match in last 13 days which includes the title win of Prague Open last weekend. With the Madrid open, now P Kvitova have captured four titles in the first 5 months of the year 2018. In total, she has now won 24 career titles till now. This will definitely boost her ranking in women singles.

Kvitova said after the title win “Everything that I had in my body, I just tried to put it out, even if it was very, very tough today.”

“In the third set, I was really thinking that I can’t do it anymore. But then when you step (into) the shot again, you are just trying to hit the return, you play the rally, the serves, whatever.”

“We both should be very proud of this beautiful final we played,” added the Madrid Clay Champion.

Men Singles Final

Now, in the men singles final today (Sunday), Austrian D. Theim who defeated World No. 1 Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals will meet German sensation A. Zverev on the clay court. D. Theim defeated South African K. Anderson in the semi-final match and A. Zverev won against D. Shapovalov of Canada in the same.
