Marin Cilic defeats Djokovic in the finals at Queen’s

While Roger Federer lost in the finals of the Halle Open, Novak Djokovic was beaten by Marin Cilic in the finals of the Fever Tree Championship. Marin Cilic defeats Djokovic 5-7 7-6 6-3 in the finals at Queen’s on Sunday. Novak Djokovic had reached the finals of a tour open after a year but couldn’t convert it into a title win.

It was a close game but at the end, Marin Cilic managed to keep Djokovic deprived of the title. Novak Djokovic had accepted a wildcard entry to the Fever Tree Championship as a part of his preparations for Wimbledon 2018. 

A title after 6 years for Cilic:

Marin Cilic who defeated Novak Djokovic in the finals at Queen’s won his first title after 2012. Marin Cilic, the Croatian is currently world number 6 and this is his 18th title win. In January 2018 he was world number 3 in the ATP rankings and then dropped to the 6th spot eventually.

The 29-year-old was a runner-up at previous year’s Wimbledon and this year’s Australian Open. In both these instances, he lost to Roger Federer. Finally, after long, he has converted an appearance in the finals to a title win.

His fast serves and powerful groundstrokes are highly popular. Marin Cilic made it to the finals after defeating Nick Kyrgios in the semis. 

Novak Djokovic returned to the Fever Tree Championship after a decade. As much as Djokovic would have loved to win at Queen’s as a part of his Wimbledon preparations, he lost in the finals. He defeated Jeremy Chardy in the send to reach the finals.

The Fever Tree Championship is over and Marin Cilic is the Champion for 2018.
