On Wednesday Rafael Nadal unleashed a new tournament called the Rafa Nadal Open which will form a part of the ATP Challenger tour. The Rafa Nadal Open will be played in his home city Manacor between August 25 and September 2.
Nadal said that before turning into a professional tennis player he played a lot in the challenger tournaments and it was great fun for him.
Rafael Nadal said that his goal has never been to win everything. He said that he rather looks to be competitive every week and when he wins it feels really good. He said that he likes to compete well and enjoy at the highest level and this makes him really happy.
The 32-year-old also stated that his staying at top of the world rankings beyond the age of 30 is an exceptional circumstance.
He said the reason why he along with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are dominating world tennis even after the age of 30 is that either they are special or the young players are not that special. He further added that a generation of special players will soon replace them.
