US Open 2018: Djokovic and del Potro to meet in final

Veteran tennis player of Serbia Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro of Argentine will be face to face in the title match of the US Open. US Open 2011 and 2015 champion Djokovic defeated Kei Nishikori of Japan to make it to the final while Dale Porto luckily entered in the clash due to Rafael Nadal’s injury in the semifinals.

In the other semifinal, Novak Djokovic defeated Kei Nishikori of Japan 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. Djokovic has been successful in making his place in the second consecutive Grand Slam final of the year. He won the Wimbledon 2018 title which was the third Grand Slam of the year.

Djokovic was dominant in the match from starting against his Japanese opponent and won the first set easily by 6-3. Nishikori tried to return to the second set and showed a better game but he could not stop Djokovic from winning this won 6-4. In the third set, Djokovic won the one-sided by 6-2 and made it to the final.

Serbian star Novak Djokovic reached the career of 23rd Grand Slam final. This is Djokovic’s eighth title match in the US Open.

Along with this, Djokovic has reached an overnight record of 14-4 against Del Potro in the last 10 years. He has also won in US Open 2007 and 2012 title against del Potro.

Nadal’s Injury 

The US Open 2009 champion and third seeded Argentine del Potro were leading 7-6, 6-2 against Nadal in the semifinals, then the Spanish veterans retired. World number one player Nadal was battling with knee injury in the match.

Nadal said after match, ‘I will return.’ He said that he knows what to do to fix this injury quickly.’
