After losing the first set against Grigor Dimitrov in just 23 minutes, Stan Wawrinka was the only person on the Center’s court to hope that he could win this men’s singles match at Wimbledon. Stan Wawrinka, who slipped 224 in the ATP rankings after knee surgery, proved himself a strong contender, defeating sixth seed Grigor Dimitrov 1-6, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5), 6-4 in his very first match of Wimbledon 2018.
This is interesting that this win is his only grand slam match win after last year’s Wimbledon tournament. Since then He could not be able to win any match in any grand slam tournament.
Stan Wawrinka’s Come Back:
Switzerland’s 33-year-old Wawrinka had made a comeback at the beginning of this year. But he won only three matches in four tournaments. After which he decided to take a break for three more months.
While returning for the second time, Wawrinka’s performance was poor again. He could only win two matches in five tournaments after return as well. During this session he was also got defeated by Andy Murray, who did not consider himself to be completely fit and decided not to play in Wimbledon.
The possibility of Wawrinka in All England was not good enough and when he got a draw against Dimitrov, who made the place in the semifinal of 2014 tournament, anyone would not have expected him to win.
Wawrinka never defeated the player in the top 10 of ATP rankings at the Grass Court. Wawrinka, however, defeated Dimitrov after returning strongly after losing the first set.
