WTA Finals: Elina Svitolina wins the prestigious title

Elina Svitolina has won the WTA Finals and the biggest title of her career against Sloane Stephens. Svitolina registered a fantastic win in the WTA Finals.

Svitolina of Ukraine won the title by defeating Sloane Stephens 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. The marathon match last 2 hours and 23 minutes. After Serena Williams of 2013, Switolina is the first player to win the WTA final without losing a match.

Svitolina, showed an aggressive game throughout the tournament, defeated current champion Caroline Wozniacki, Petra Kvitova and Carolina Pisikova in the Group Stage match. In the semi-finals, she beat Kiki Bertens.

With this win, the ATP world ranking of Svitolina can also improve, because now she has won nine finals.

In the semi-finals played on Saturday, Ukraine’s Elena Svitolina defeated Kiki Bertens. With this win she made it to the final of the WTA Finals tournament.

Talking about the match Svitolina said with enthusiasm “It is amazing. I am very pleased with my performance this week.”

“There were nerves early on but I was just trying to fight for every ball and I think that made the difference in the end,” she added.

“Sloane played amazing tennis so I really had to play my best tennis to win,” she concluded with joy.

However, Stephens was very disappointed with her performance and said that “It is not the way I wanted to finish but I worked really hard to get here and I can be really proud of my result today so I am really pleased with that.”
