After losing the away game against İstanbul Başakşehir FK by 2-1, Manchester United was highly criticized for their shameful performance. Yesterday it was an ask for Ole’s men to step up and shut their critics. And they did that in style.
Manchester United beat the Turkish club by 4-1 at Old Trafford and maintain the top spot in their group. Bruno Fernandes scored a brace followed by Marcus Rashford from the spot in the first half and Daniel James made it 4 for the Red Devils at the end.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made some key changes in the team. Edinson Cavani got his first start in a Manchester United shirt and Martial was drifted wide in the left-wing and Rashford to right. Donny Van De Beek also started yesterday in the midfield with Fred and Bruno Fernandes.
Manchester United started to dominate the game from the very first minute of the game. Bruno Fernandes scored in the 7th minute with an outrageous shot from the edge of the box. He made it double at the 19th minute capitalizing the fault of the İstanbul Başakşehir FK’s goalkeeper. Marcus Rashford scored from the spot in the 35th minute of the game.
In the second half, İstanbul Başakşehir FK was trying to get back into the game. Basaksehir’s Deniz Turuc scored from a stunning free-kick before Daniel James made it 4 for Manchester United.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was so pleased with his team’s performance. He said, “We know every single game, if we perform to our best level we’ll beat anyone. That’s the challenge for the boys and the pressure for the boys.
“Of course, we’re happy today, a very good performance, we created chances. Going into half-time at 3-0 was comfortable, sometimes it’s nice for the heartbeat to be a little bit lower!”
“There was some great interchange football, great link-up play, one and two touch football, and some fantastic goals. So we’re very pleased.”
Bruno Fernandes missed his hat-trick as he didn’t take the penalty and let Marcus Rashford score. Bruno’s brace helped him to become the fastest midfielder to score 20 goals in Manchester United’s history. After the match, he said, “I’m happy for that, my team-mates have helped me a lot. It was really important the way everyone helped me in the first days and games, so I’m really happy. It’s important for me but the most important thing is helping the team and I think I can help a little bit more.”
Manchester United now just needs 2 points from the next 2 games to qualify for the UEFA Champions League ‘Round of 16’ this year.
