It’s all English final in the UEFA Champions League

It’s going to be an all-English final in UEFA Champions League this season. After Manchester City, Chelsea secured their place in the final beating Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

Chelsea beat Real Madrid by 2-0 and cemented their place in the final in 3-1 aggregate over two-leg. Chelsea’s Timo Werner and Mason Mount scored for Chelsea last night.

Chelsea broke the deadlock at the 28th minute of the game as Timo Werner headed one into the net to give the English side an early lead in the game. Real Madrid tried their best to get back into the game but the Chelsea defense was so strong to break.

Later Mason Mount’s 85th-minute goal sealed the victory for Thomas Tuchell’s side. It is Chelsea’s first UEFA Champions League final appearance after 2012 when they beat FC Bayern Munich to win the title.

After the match, Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount said, “I can’t put it into words, really, at the moment. But it was a great performance tonight, it was a tough, tough game.”

“We gave it everything. We had that desire, we wanted to win. You could see in the first half we had a couple of opportunities where we won the ball back and could’ve countered and scored, but we didn’t take them. But we got the one at the end so it doesn’t matter.” – he added.

Chelsea will face Manchester City in the final in Istanbul on May 29th in an all-English Champions League final, and also have an FA Cup final against Leicester City coming up in 10 days’ time. Ending the season with both of these trophies is now the primary target for Thomas Tuchell’s side.
