Manchester United wants to continue their Champion League’s form in Istanbul

After a good start in UEFA Champions League Manchester United has traveled to Istanbul for their away game against tonight. In the first two-game Manchester beat Paris Saint Germain and RB Leipzig by 2-1 and 5-0 respectively.

Though the form of Manchester United in the Champions League is excellent, they struggled to perform in the Premier League this season. They lost against Arsenal last Sunday as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored from the spot and sealed the victory for the Gunners.

After a lot of criticism from Sunday, Manchester United wants to back to their very best today. In the pre-match press conference, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came with his captain Harry Maguire.

Manchester United is practicing hard before the İstanbul Başakşehir F.K. game

Ole knows that his team’s main problem is a lack of consistency. He said, “There are fine margins in games of football. There are games when you get the margins, games when they are against you. Teams have made their homework against you, and it was small margins. Leipzig as well, it wasn’t a 5-0 game.”

Harry Maguire supported his manager and told that United is working hard to maintain their consistency. “The main thing is working hard, trying to improve. Coming into training each day, trying to improve. We want to be consistent. Last season when we found consistency we achieved third in the Premier League and Champions League football.”- Maguire said.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has played with a 4-4-2 formation with a diamond in midfield in their last UCL game against RB Leipzig. He has hinted at a change in the team and the formation as well. He said, “It is always positive to have options, we have a style we want to play. Sometimes on paper, it looks 4-4-2, 4-3-3. The principles are still there, for us when we start with three at the back it is the same as when we have four at the back.”

The defense was always a problem for Manchester United in the recent past. While assessing the form of Manchester United defense, Harry Maguire said, “We started off not in the best shape. We have worked hard since we came back from the international break and since then we have been really good. We have conceded two own goals and a soft penalty. We are on the right track, but we need to get the right balance.”

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson can replace David De Gea today to make his UEFA Champions League debut. Alex Telles is out of the squad as he was tested COVID-19 positive last week. Edinson Cavani, Donny Van De Beek can be in the starting XI as well.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to face his opponent. But he respects his opposition before the game. He said, “They have done well, it will be difficult. If we play to our best we will get those four to six points we need.”

İstanbul Başakşehir F.K. defender Rafael is delighted to face his former side. Rafael was at Manchester United from 2008-2015. He has 5 goals in Manchester United jersey in his 170 appearances for the club. He has won 3 premier leagues and 1 FIFA Club World Cup in his time at Manchester.
