Real Madrid got a big blow before the second-leg tie against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League semi-final on Wednesday. Raphaël Varane has been ruled out of Wednesday’s clash through an injury.
The Real Madrid defender was withdrawn at half-time during Saturday’s 2-0 win over Osasuna and MRI tests have since confirmed a problem with his “right abductor muscles”. According to a report by Marca, the 27-year-old has only been ruled out for ten days. But he will be unable to appear in two crucial fixtures for Los Blancos, against Chelsea and Sevilla.
Real Madrid has already issued an official statement regarding the absence of the French defender. The statement read, ‘After the tests carried out today on our player Raphaël Varane by Real Madrid Medical Services, he was diagnosed with an injury to the right-abductor muscles.’
The first leg of the tie was ended in a 1-1 draw. Chelsea has got the upper hand after the crucial away goal. Real Madrid needs a solid performance at Stamford Bridge to reach another UEFA Champions League final. The 13 times UCL champions are ready to snatch their crown again this year.
