AS Roma confirms Jose Mourinho as new head coach

AS Roma announce Jose Mourinho as their new head coach today. The Portuguese will take charge of the Italian side from the start of the next season.

AS Roma issued a statement through their social handles in this regard. The statement read, ‘The club is delighted to announce an agreement has been reached with Jose Mourinho for him to become our new head coach ahead of the 2021-22 season!’

It was earlier confirmed that AS Roma’s current boss Paulo Fonseca is set to leave the club after two years. After that, it was a talking point that who is going to be the new manager for the Italian side. However, it does not take too long to find the answer. In a shock move, the Giallorossi have revealed that Mourinho will take charge, beginning in the summer.

AS Roma has a tough season this year. They are currently 7th in the Serie A table and almost certainly out of the next year’s UEFA competitions. Last week they lost 6-2 at Old Trafford against Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League first leg and waiting for the second leg tie against them on Thursday at Stadio Olimpico.

On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspurs sacked Jose Mourinho a few days ago for their poor run of form in every competition. After losing his job as Spurs manager, Mourinho told the press that he will be back on the football pitch soon which is now a matter of time.

After agreeing on the contract, Jose Mourinho said, “After meetings with the ownership, I immediately understood their ambitions for Roma. Together we want to build a winning project.”

“The incredible passion of the fans convinced me to accept the job. I can’t wait to start next season. Daje Roma!”- he added.

Previously, Mourinho had a pretty successful tenure at Italy with Inter Milan from 2008-2010. He won the Serie-A two times with a treble-winning season with Inter Milan in 2009-10.

It will be interesting to see if he can do the same in his second spell in Italy or not.
