FIFA World Cup 2018: Argentine Players Boycott Their Coach Jorge Sampaoli

In the FIFA World Cup 2018, players of the Argentine team, who have stood on the verge of being out of the group stage, have rebelled against coach Jorge Sampaoli.

The players said clearly to the Argentine Football Association that Jorge Sampaoli could sit on the bench during the match against Nigeria, but his role in team selection and the combination would not be tolerated. However, this demand of the players has not been accepted by the federation.

According to reports, senior team member Javier Mascherano is leading the rebel players. The Argentine players took this step after losing the match against Croatia. They said that  they have lost faith in coach Sampaoli completely.

The players want the team’s general manager Jorge Burruchaga to take charge of the team. Jorge Burruchaga was also a member of the FIFA World Cup 1986 winning team.

Jorge Burruchaga’s friend and 1986 team-mate Ricardo Giusti said that “the players now want to choose their own team. They now don’t have any faith in Sampaoli. Sampaoli can sit on the bench during the match, but they will not pay attention to his instructions.”

Miserable World Cup for Argentina:

Current runner-up Argentina has started threatening to get out of the FIFA World Cup 2018. After the draw of the first match against Iceland, they had to face a defeat of 0-3 against Croatia in the next match.

Now they will have to defeat Nigeria to reach knockout and hope that Iceland does not win the second match.
