FIFA World Cup 2018: Senegal is back home, No African team will play knockouts

Senegal is back home. Senegal was Africa’s last hope and now Senegal is out of the FIFA World Cup 2018. Colombia defeated Senegal 1-0, not only entered the knockout but also topped Group H. Senegal needed a draw just to replicate the performance of its first FIFA World Cup, but Yerry Mina demolished the hopes of this African team in the 74th minute.

Colombia didn’t start this FIAF World Cup very well. They got defeated by Japan 2-1 in their first match. But after starting not well they topped the Group H.

No African team will be in the second round after 1986

This World Cup is like a nightmare for the African continent. Since 1986 when top 16 stage has been implemented in the FIFA World Cup, in every World Cup, the African team has made a place in the second round, but this time none of the five teams could make it to the final 16.

Everyone hoped that Senegal will qualify for Knockouts as it was on top of the group but they failed. Yerry Mina scored the only goal of the match. This goal through Senegal out of the tournament along with all African hopes.

Fair Play came in to play:

This was the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup when a team was dropped out on the basis of Fair Play scores. Japan also lost it’s last match against Poland 1-0. After the defeat in last matches of Senegal and Japan, the goals and points difference of both the teams turned out to be the same. After this fair play points were counted.

In fair play, the number of red cards, yellow cards and fowls are counted. Here in Japan beats Senegal and on this basis he got a place in the last 16. Japan has -4 points in fair play while Senegal has -6. Due to these fair play points, Senegal is back home now.
