Manchester United is having ups and downs in their game this season. They are now 15th in the Premier League table. Though they are top in the group in UEFA Champions League they lost to İstanbul Başakşehir F.K. yesterday by 2-1.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is getting a lot of criticism in the last few weeks. Some fans want him to be replaced by ex-Tottenham Hotspurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.
But what are the main problem of Manchester United this season?
The poor form of Manchester United defense cost them many problems this season. They have conceded 13 goals in the first 6 Premier League games this season. They have kept the only 1 clean-sheet in Premier League this season against Chelsea. On an interesting note, Manchester United has conceded a penalty in every game they lost in Premier League this season.
Not only that, Manchester United has already conceded two same-side goals this season. Their defense was also exposed again yesterday against İstanbul Başakşehir F.K. for both times.
The poor form of key players:
Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Harry Maguire, and some other key players are struggling in the last few weeks. This is giving a nightmare to United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in some matches.
This is a huge issue for Manchester United in the last couple of seasons. This season is going in the same way. After losing against Tottenham Hotspurs by 6-1 at home, they have the audacity to come back with a 4-1 against Newcastle United. They also beat Paris Saint Germain in Paris by 2-1 and RB Leipzig by 5-0 in the first two games of the UEFA Champions League. After those great results, they again lost against Arsenal in Premier League by 1-0 and İstanbul Başakşehir F.K. by 2-1 in the Champions League. The lack of consistency is letting down the Red Devils.
Poor form at home:
Old Trafford was a hell for the opposition side once upon a time. Coming to Old Trafford and getting a point was a dream for the opposition. But Manchester United failed this season to capitalize at home. They are yet to win a Premier League game at Old Trafford this season. They have secured just 1 point in the first 4 games at home with conceding 10 goals already.
The lack of fitness of some players is clearly noticeable. Paul Pogba, after the injury and surviving Covid-19, is not looking in a good shape right now. New recruit Edinson Cavani is back in the field after almost 280 days. He is also facing a fitness problem.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer always backs his players in their tough times. But sometimes you have to make some tough decisions. Giving a chance to a player who is in form is much more appreciable than a star a player in his bad patch. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to think about this matter more.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a clear plan to make Manchester United best again. His recruitments show his visions. He has done a great job with a struggling Manchester United squad last season. One needs to be patient enough to rise up from the ashes. It takes time. Manchester United has already sacked 3 managers in the last 7 years after the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson. Sacking Ole and recruiting Pochettino may write the same script again.
