Lionel Messi was set to leave FC Barcelona last summer. But he was ‘forced’ to stay at the club until the end of the season at that time. In an interview in September, he cleared all the doubts and spoke against the board president Josep Maria Bartomeu. Bartomeu resigned from the post but the situation has not changed in Messi’s mind.
According to reports in Spain, the Argentine is ‘done’ with his boyhood club and wants to leave the club for fresh air. He wants to leave the club by the end of the season. He revealed his desire to live in America and also have a dream to play there.
Messi delivers an hour-long interview where he discussed Barcelona leave before this summer and he slammed the club to let Suarez go for free.
The current contract will end in June 2021 for one of the greatest players in Barcelona, officially he can make deal with the other club outside of Spain. Messi has revealed that he won’t look to discuss a move away from Barcelona in January because of the release clause of 700 million.
Messi was confident that he would have won in any legal battle against the Catalan giants last summer. But he did not want to leave his childhood club in that way. He said “I knew that if we went to court, we would have won. Not just one lawyer told me that, many did. But I didn’t want to leave Barca in that way.”
Messi was shocked how the club released Suarez to direct rival for free, and the way they took, Messi slammed the authority for that brutality.
“What happened with Luis Suarez to Atleti (Atletico Madrid) was crazy!”
“He left for free, paying the remaining years of his contract and he joined a team that fights for the same objectives as us. Unbelievable.”
Messi said he has a strong connection with Suarez and Neymar who was their former attacking partner.
“We speak a great deal and I speak to Luis every day. The last time I spoke to Neymar was after the (Champions League) round of 16 draws.”
“I will not deal with other clubs. I will wait for the end of the season and in June I will decide.” Messi told to Jordi Évole on La Sexta TV.
“I’ve always had the dream of playing and living in America, but I don’t know if it will really happen. I don’t have anything clear about my future until the end of the year”.
Messi got emotional when talking about the journey in this club “It was me telling the club that I wanted to leave, I felt I’d completed a cycle and it was time to leave the club that had given me so much.”
Messi doesn’t want to get involved in any clauses so no hurry in January. But after the season ends in June, he wants to leave Barcelona, he already spoke to the board of Barcelona for the free clause at the season end.
“I’m not thinking too far ahead in the short term and just want to see how the season finishes.” Messi wishes he would reunite his old coach Pep Guardiola.
“His (Guardiola) way of preparing games was exceptional and his way and the way of working that Luis Enrique worked too was excellent. I was fortunate to work with both men”.
In Koeman’s early days in Barcelona was facing difficulties with the transition because there were so many new players. But they started to find the tempo now. FC Barcelona is now 6th in the table.
