Daniel Ricciardo of team Red Bull finished fourth at Circuit Paul Ricard on Sunday. His contract with Red Bull will be ending towards the end of 2018. With a lot of teams betting big on his inclusion and even Red Bull keen on retaining him, Daniel Ricciardo has set a deadline for himself. He wants to decide upon his F1 future before the F1 summer break starts.
Daniel Ricciardo joined Red Bull in 2014 after Mark Webber decided to retire. He has 7 wins and 29 podium appearances in his career so far. The Australian driver will be in high demand as his contract with Red Bull is on the verge of elapsing.
It was only recently that Red Bull decided to confirm the Honda engine switch. He has already been linked to McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari amid speculations. Even Red Bull wants to retain him.
Ferrari may look to replace ageing Kimi Raikkonen with him if they are not going for Charles Leclerc.
Amid all the speculations Ricciardo has also hinted at an early deal. He did say that a lot of developments can be seen in the next week. He said that discussions might ramp up in the next 7 days.
Others have confirmed:
At present only Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen have an officially confirmed grid presence for the 2019 F1 season. Even Lewis Hamilton is yet to confirm a new deal with Mercedes. He did not drop any hints about it during the French Grand Prix.
So, the 2019 driver market would be an interesting one to watch out for.
