In the history of the FIFA World Cup, there has been a record for the last 60 years. It is the Legacy of French Legend Just Fontaine to score 13 goals in the FIFA World Cup 1958. Apart from Fontaine, no other footballer in the world could have matched this performance, either to repeat or to go beyond it.
The special thing is that these 13 goals of Fontaine could not even win France the title of FIFA World Cup in Sweden in the year 1958. He also scored two hat-tricks in this FIFA World Cup.
West Germany defeated France in this FIFA World Cup 6-3, which is the biggest defeat of France in the FIFA World Cup History.
Despite his unbelievable performance, France had to face defeat against Yugoslavia and Brazil as well. It was very awkward situation for him that time. He was performing well but his team was losing match continuously. France remained third in this FIFA World Cup.
Though it has been 60 years for that record but the Legacy of French Legend Just Fontaine still persist in the history of the FIFA World Cup.
Yugoslavia and the History:
This was the same Yugoslavia, Croatia used to be a part of which. Croatia achieved the landmark that even Yugoslavia couldn’t in the FIFA World Cup history. Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina were the part of Yugoslavian team, but this country never reached the FIFA World Cup final.
The last time Yugoslavia played in the FIFA World Cup 1990, where they were defeated by Argentina in a penalty shootout. But in 1991, after the separation from Yugoslavia, Croatia made it to the semi-finals in the FIFA World Cup 1998 and now they have made it to the final of FIFA World Cup 2018.
